Title: S5500 Hopper function question
Post by: Matt1999 on January 15, 2012, 01:45:16 AM
I converted a $1 hopper to .05. I changed out the pin wheel, shelf wheel and knife. I have not cashed out yet but I have manually turned the wheel with the buttons on the hopper. It seems to be functioning fine, but I wont know if the sensor works right until I cash out. I only have a few coins in the hopper now.

When I credit the machine and the coins fall in the hopper, they fall into the "bowl" part of the hopper. It takes a large amount of coins before they fall where the shelf wheel is. Will I be able to cash out if the coins are only in the bowl? Can I or should I adjust the hopper?

as is logical, if there are no coins at the pinwheel, then they can't be dispensed.  Since you asked the question, I would guess that your hopper is the 2 stage type with a motor on top that turns the drum in the secondary bowl.  when these type run out of coins at the pin wheel, the motor turns the secondary bowl to move the coins into the area of the pin wheel.  Even with this type, there still needs to be enough coins to be able to dispense. If the motor for the secondary doesn't turn, then check for coins jammed around the drum.

Thanks,
Wayne

Attached are pictures of the hopper. See how the nickles gather at the bowl. It could take 100+ nickles before they start falling into the wheel.

Does this look correct? Can you adjust the bowl to tilt more towards the wheel?

To me that looks normal if you have a problem it will be at the sensor not counting coins you have to make sure the sensor is all the way down as to read coin

Matt   read Wayne's reply #1 Your hopper has two motors, one for the pin wheel and when the hopper thinks it's empty the second motor will engage and turn the outer drum causing the coins to drop into the pin wheel side.  Doesn't hurt to have a bunch of coins in the hopper because it's a rarity when a hopper will pick up all the coins.
