Title: Merit Technologies Dakota Superstar F32040 Post by: stayouttadabunker on November 20, 2008, 04:20:42 PM I know how you feel techknight...I have been watching and reading this topic but I couldnt help you.
And I know the frustration you feel when you keep checking back here and still no one has replied... I found that patience is the key. Someone somewhere will respond. :89- I have the same kind of corrupted screen on a Dakota Superstar video machine made by Merit Technologies (Model F32040) that has been gathering dust. If I get mine fixed, maybe it'll help you... it's a pulltab/slot type of game. I cant find anything on it....nada...nothing :8- Title: Merit Technologies Dakota Superstar F32040 Post by: stayouttadabunker on November 21, 2008, 01:09:37 AM no,
unfortunately I cannot clear the "code 4". It goes back to that scrambled pixels.... :37- Title: Merit Technologies Dakota Superstar F32040 Post by: techknight on November 21, 2008, 01:18:59 AM yeap that board needs gone through. especially the SRAMs.
can you take pictures of those boards? Also you need to test all the components on the power supply also. Title: Merit Technologies Dakota Superstar F32040 Post by: techknight on November 21, 2008, 01:19:14 AM If you lived near me, i would come over and fix it. :P
Title: Merit Technologies Dakota Superstar F32040 Post by: stayouttadabunker on November 21, 2008, 01:32:12 AM I actually have two boards...pics tommorow morning...

Title: Merit Technologies Dakota Superstar F32040 Post by: stayouttadabunker on November 24, 2008, 02:22:34 PM OKAY OKAY OKAY! LOLOL :72- I'm so sorry!!!!please forgive me!
here they are....The first board had markings on the chips, the other board only has green tape over them. Title: Merit Technologies Dakota Superstar F32040 Post by: stayouttadabunker on November 24, 2008, 02:24:21 PM Here's the 2nd board pictures...
Title: Merit Technologies Dakota Superstar F32040 Post by: techknight on November 24, 2008, 08:57:54 PM you need to change the SRAM. the pictures arnt a high enough resolution to see what the part numbers are.
Also the dallas chips need replaced as they have a battery inside that chip which has died by now. Title: Merit Technologies Dakota Superstar F32040 Post by: techknight on November 24, 2008, 09:13:32 PM the 6264 is commonly available as 6264LP-70
not so sure on the dallas chip. Also for safekeeping perposes, the data on all those 27512 EPROMs need dumped and saved just in case a failure occures in the future on the chip. (bitrot) Title: Merit Technologies Dakota Superstar F32040 Post by: techknight on November 24, 2008, 09:17:56 PM and one thing that I noticed. both of those game boards are the same. only difference is probably one has a different game programmed in the EPROMs.
Title: Merit Technologies Dakota Superstar F32040 Post by: stayouttadabunker on November 24, 2008, 10:16:23 PM Thanks techknight,
I'll be damned if I know where to start looking for replacement chips for this thing. I want to thanks you for all the help you've given me so far. I am amazed at what you can tell from my terrible photography... As far as the 2624chip, do I buy blanks like from digikey or mouser be okay? Or must the chips be formatted and programmed? I'll bet no one for the next bunch of years will have a "clear" chip for these rams. I may just strip the machine and throw a cherry master game in it! :96- Title: Merit Technologies Dakota Superstar F32040 Post by: techknight on November 24, 2008, 10:31:42 PM lol... SRAM is RAM. or Volatle memory. memory is lost when power is lost. period. :P
its 6264. i dont know where you got that number from. Just replace them. Title: Merit Technologies Dakota Superstar F32040 Post by: stayouttadabunker on November 24, 2008, 10:37:22 PM oh...lol.......duh okay...a lot I know huh? :72-
ADD>> 2664, 2624...I must be dyslexic or something now....... Title: Merit Technologies Dakota Superstar F32040 Post by: stayouttadabunker on November 26, 2008, 06:54:47 PM I changed out the Dallas rams and then put back in the old Dallas rams...
The game is working perfectly....amazing huh? Thanks for your help on the rams... I think switching the rams cleared out something then the game booted up perfectly when I re-installed the old rams. Now, I'm gonna fool around with the other board and see what it is... Kudos + to ya techknight! I posted a few pics in no particular order but to show that I played some tabs then hit the cash out button, the credits got knocked down to zero and got a printout down below in the tray. Title: Merit Technologies Dakota Superstar F32040 Post by: techknight on November 26, 2008, 09:02:33 PM told ya. hehe.
Title: Merit Technologies Dakota Superstar F32040 Post by: stayouttadabunker on November 26, 2008, 10:04:34 PM haha yes you did! I gotta thank you for that.
I got a question for ya. If I sent the board to you, could you burn me a copy of everything in case this happens again? It's good to have spares but I dont know crap about burning eeproms. Heck, I dont even own one. I'll reimburse you for what ever you need to make a copy. Would you need the whole board or just certain items? Title: Merit Technologies Dakota Superstar F32040 Post by: techknight on November 26, 2008, 10:30:59 PM Well it seems the ROMs are ok, if the game is playing normal.
Title: Merit Technologies Dakota Superstar F32040 Post by: stayouttadabunker on November 26, 2008, 10:34:47 PM Okay thanks techknight,
My grandmother really likes it....I'm thinking of giving it to her for xmas. I might get into eeprom burning later but right now I'm awaiting a huge CON1 to come in and start playing with that... I may not have any hair left after this...lol Did you ever get your Bally video game going yet? Title: Merit Technologies Dakota Superstar F32040 Post by: techknight on November 26, 2008, 11:09:50 PM Yea but im going to have to look deeper into the address decoding/latch circuits as the lights dont appear to work.
