Title: Coin deflector plate behind comparitor buzzes Post by: deanwaters on January 30, 2012, 01:27:26 AM So I am having a 'noise' problem with my S+ Double Spin Five Times Pay. Behind the coin comparitor there's a coin deflection plate and a magnet that causes this plate to act as a coin deflector. When the machine is ready for coins, the magnet engages and draws this plate back and away from the comparitor. Once max credits have been reached or the reels are spun, the magnet disengages and a light spring on the deflector plate moves the plate towards the coin path to divert any extra coins directly to the payout tray. It works fine. Always has. But now when the magnet engages and draws the plate back, it buzzes. As in you-can-hear-it-across-the-room-it's-so-loud buzzes. Game play is unaffected, but when idle (ready for coins), it's buzzing away.
I have some old 70's and 80's era Bally electro-mechanical machines that have always done this (but not as loud). Someone once told me that the metal gets fatigued and just (somehow) isn't as magnetic as before so it doesn't 'hold' cleanly against the magnet when it's engaged which is why it buzzes. Plausible? Or crap? Any ideas...? Thanks Dean |
