Title: Bally 5500 troubles Post by: Neonkiss on January 21, 2009, 05:49:56 PM Hi all, Just got a Bally 5500 and running down some error codes.
I'm new to this format of machines. When it comes to Bally stuff I have only done some E/M and E series stuff so here it goes. I have done a complete RAM clear and all went good. I got the normal CH C and the CL C but I still have one small problem. On power up the reels shake, Spin and then stop. But instead of the start of a normal game I get an error code of 5.4. changing to 7.1. then followed by 0000 I did all the tests listed in the manual and everything checks out good. What do I need to look at next? Title: Re: Bally 5500 troubles Post by: AcePeter on January 21, 2009, 09:09:08 PM I had the same problem with the 54 error code when I first started working on a 5500 I stuck a piece of cardboard in the drop door switch where the cam would be when locked and that stopped the 54 error. My machine worked after that.
Hope I could be of some help.. Title: Re: Bally 5500 troubles Post by: Neonkiss on January 21, 2009, 09:32:33 PM Thanks.. :3-
You were right. Stuck a piece of cardboard in their and the machine reset and accepted a one dollar bill. Ran it up to 9 credits before it took it all back. Now I have to drill out that lock and see what's in the cash box :71- I'll adjust the switch after I get the door open. Thanks again and K+ for the cardboard idea :96- Title: Re: Bally 5500 troubles Post by: AcePeter on January 22, 2009, 12:31:09 AM Great glad I could help...

I have a few other questions, I want to change the game theme so in you personal opinions what is the best game for the Bally 5500 platform? Also in Ricks frequently asked questions I see a lot of S+ stuff, but nothing on the 5500's. Does anyone know or have a list of games and the chip numbers that go with them? I have over 20 MPU boards and maybe I already have the chips for some of those cool games you guys will be suggesting. I have a R/T machine so if someone does have a kit for sale pleas PM me. What is the difference in the mains? some are 92000 ? what are the personality proms ? Game proms? On the IGT stuff they printed out game and reel chips but I don't know witch ones are witch with the Bally stuff. It's not in my manual. Thanks, Robert K Title: Re: Bally 5500 troubles Post by: jdkmunch on January 26, 2009, 12:30:36 AM If you look at the top of the Bally Reel Games thread - Wayne put together a master list of most of the Bally chips/themes available. It may help. I too have a few MPUs and extra reel sets and will be adding a few themes. I like to have the MPU and reels all set up so all I have to do is pop in the reels and board and boom - New Game!

Title: Re: Bally 5500 troubles Post by: davidw2400 on September 29, 2010, 11:03:14 PM I bought a couple of Bally 5500s, and having a couple problems. I bought new batteries because I was getting a 81 error code. I replaced a battery on one and performed a clear ( I think ) and I still get error codes. Did I forget something, or did I neglect to do something.? any help would be greatly appreciated David

What error codes are you now getting? What Mains do you have installed in your machine? (Do they require clear chips or just the JW10 jumper) If you used the correct procedure, then: Did you press both the pseudo-coin and test buttons firmly before turning the machine on? Did you get the CH C message when you powered up? Did it change to CL C when you let go of the buttons? Im sorry but Im over my head..David
