Title: Multi-denom button on S2000 with 6-6-3 display?
Post by: knagl on February 02, 2012, 07:38:05 PM
Hi everyone.  I searched through old posts and couldn't find this topic addressed.

I have a friend who got a batch of machines that have the 6-6-3 displays and came with the four-quadrant touch panels that go behind the reel glass.  He wants to remove those touch panels and just use an added button on the button deck to offer multi-denomination selection (and presumably be able to enable more than four denoms).  He has tried doing just that and said that the machine would not switch denominations with the button.  Is he doing something wrong (ie. does something need to be reconfigured when "downgrading" from the touch panel to a player panel button), or can you not use a player panel button on a machine that has a 6-6-3 display?

Thanks for your help.

I don't remember the post, but this has been discussed a few times in the last year and it's been found that the 663 setup WILL NOT work with a mechanical denom button any more than a 552 will work with a touchpad. Games made after the advent of the 663 display generally had the wiring for mechanical buttons eliminated from their harness' on the door also

I searched again with a different term and came up with this post (http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=12645.0) -- is that the one you're talking about?  It looks like it was suspected (but never followed up with a confirmation) that you can't use the button if you have a 6-6-3 display.  My friend's machines does indeed have the extra wiring going over to where the button would go, but I saw you suggested that perhaps IGT hadn't yet modified the harness.

Has anyone ever confirmed that putting a 5-5-2 display in "activates" the button on machines that came with a 6-6-3?

Yes, it will work.

I've tried it a bunch of times knagl...both ways.
It's not easy but once you figure out the settings - they do work both ways.
I'm sure that it has to do with some sort of certain SB/SG/VS chip combos that do NOT work.
But I've been very lucky using the SG000363's and the VS0gx1 chips with just about any SB chip with success.

You end up switching out the Clear and Key chip a million times to get it right
and really the MPU requires a few ZIF sockets if one wants to tinker around with their S2000 a lot.

I just wish they made ZIF sockets long enough for to fit the SB chip!!  :25-

I recall it being discussed that when a 663 display is installed the game automatically looks for a touchpad and doesn't recognize a switch and vice versa for a 552 display. Other than changing the display setting, what else is in the programming for selecting options related to this? I know I tried to use a switch on my cleo while waiting for a touch pad and ended up having to reinstall the 552 till it showed up. I guess we need someone who's done it to post a step by step and what chipset(s) it works with.

I picked up a couple the other day.

There is no way to use a 6-6-3 and the Select denom button next toe the Max Bet button.

I tried with a 363 and 11GX1 it would always enable one button the touchpad even if unplugged. touchpad & lightbox at the display.

It is best to swap the 5-5-2 back in.
They make the 5-5-2 and the 6-6-3 in short reel glass and long reel glass versions.
If you can get the machine to play with a 663 configured as a 552 that is the only way to do it.
I dont think it will though.

I agree...you can't use both at the same time.
The problem these guys are having is they can't get the denom button to work with their game?
They don't want the Touch Cell panels either. ( I'll take one if they're for sale please!   :267- )

So....what chips are in THAT particular game?  :129-

I will go try my denom button with a 6-6-3 and a different game right now for kicks.
Would a different VSO chip make any difference?
Let's keep our fingers crossed!

That's assuming that he has 5-5-2s available.   :5-

I don't think he's looking to sell them -- he wants the machines to be multi-denom, but his preference is to use a button to select denominations rather than the touchpads.  He's more than likely going to wind up keeping the touchpads unless there's a way to use a button on the machines with the 6-6-3 displays, which doesn't look too promising based on what has been posted here so far.  If there's a way, however, I'm sure Bunker will figure it out.

IF there is a separate chip on the 6-6-3 that drives the touch pad and light box
I wonder what kind of error would occur if it was removed or disabled so the rest of the logic of 6-6-3 and machine could not detect or communicate with it.

I like my touch pad and I dont have a spare 6-6-3 to even think about trying it.
Do not try this at home!
Bunker you may try this at your own risk!

haha! You know me guys...I'll try it!
I'm thinking of making a bypass loop harness so the Touch Cell driver IC thinks it's being "read".
Sort of like the way we can bypass the optics and the coin mech with such loops.

I don't like the 6-6-3 displays anyways.
I prefer to use the 5-5-2 ( numbers are bigger) in combo with the extra Denom deck button.
