Title: IGT S+ With Flashing Blue Light on Candle - will not reset
Post by: memays on February 06, 2012, 08:16:23 PM
I have an S+ (Double Diamond-SP1048) which was experiencing 3100 errors.  After resolving that, I got flashing blue light with no error codes..  After several tries, got it reset by pulling the CMOS for a couple of min to reset it, then reinstalling, and everything was working properly.

After playing for about an hour, I left it on overnight, and today, I have flashing Blue light on the candle (lower Light) again, and no error codes in the display.  Opening/closing the door has no effect, and it does not play or accept coins.   Can anyone tell me what it is trying to tell me with the blue light?  :103-

I don't believe it is door open (I swapped the door optics with another machine, cash can switch is jumpered)  I am fairly certain that if I clear CMOS again, it would work.

Thanks for any help!!!

Do you know if the top lamp in the candle is good? I ask because there are multiple things it could be (bottom flashing) but most have the top doing something too. But they all seem to be door related (not just the main door).

As poppo showed in the diagram he posted, a flashing lower candle segment can mean a few different things, however if it's just the lower segment flashing rapidly, it's indicating either that a door is open, or that a door was open and is now closed.  (Some SP chips will keep the lower candle segment flashing after a door closure, until the first paid game is completed.)

For starters, check your bill stacker (cash can) door -- if that door flopped open on its own (it can happen if you don't have a lock in it), you'll get a door open error and the machine won't be ready to play.

what do you observe when the candle starts to flash?  any displays?  denom lamp out?   insert coin lamp out?   can you get into the test mode with the door open?   can you press the white button  on the coin optics and get a credit on the machine?

THE CANDLE WAS NEVER INTENDED TO BE A TROUBLSHOOTING GUIDE, it was mainly for security reasons, jackpots, machine malfunctions, and to indicate what denomination the machine is. but now (with muli-denom) that no longer applies.

give us some other indicators, other than the candle.

Thanks everyone for the quick replies!    I removed the MPU and reseated it, closed the door, and everything is back to normal. :279-

According to Poppo's chart (thanks, again!) the light is showing Idle - Door open, however light would go out for a couple of seconds when the door was closed (Which indicates the door optics are good) and the cash door switch has been removed and jumpered(with a good connection)  this leaves me with possible bad contacts on the connectors from the MPU to the Motherboard.   I will get some contact cleaner and see if I can clean them up. ( I also bought another MPU, so maybe I'll just swap it)
I read on some other posts about other switches in the door loop?  (MPU Switch?, Belly door switch?) but I don't see either on this machine.  Maybe I got lucky, and got a good connection on the pins this time, and it will run clean for awhile.

Thanks again everyone! I now have all three IGT machines running!  I couldn't have done it without your help.  :131- Hopefully I'll learn enough to help contribute to this board :71-

[Now, it's off to the Sigma forum for the last machine....]

Sorry Jim, your post came up as I was typing my reply.    Yes, several strange things:  1st, it ran fine last night, and when I came home tonight = blue light.    With blue light flashing, no play, no coins accepted.  Sometimes the Insert Coin, and Coins played would flash alternating, the denom would go out for awhile, then come back on, I could hear a relay lock, then unlock.   Just too many strange things happening which made it difficult to diagnose.

... the denom would go out for awhile, then come back on, ...

That's a good clue. Check that white molex connector that goes from the power supply to the motherboard. It's been known to cause problems (including the 3100 error). See if it looks burnt. See this thread.

the reason I asked if the denom lamp was on:  its a real good indicator of what the status of the  power supply is doing in the machine.  specifically the power connector on the motherboard.

regardless of what is going on with the MPU or the candle, the voltages going into the mother board provide that lamp with its power. if the machine is on that lamp is good then it has to be on .

even with the board removed, that lamp should come on when power is applied, or you have some type of interuption, either the  fuse caps, the cable, or the connection itself,  being one of the most troublesome spots on a S+ , I would check that area out.

an easy way to test it :  remove coin tray, hopper,  turn machine on, wiggle the connection at the mother board, if the denom lamp comes on and goes off as you wiggle, then you may have found the problem.

Great information - So, maybe by bouncing the MPU In/Out, I may have rattled the connector and got a good connection, and the connections on the MPU may not be the problem.   Hmm...  I'll certainly check out that connector - Thanks!

Found burnt Molex connector - just as you said.  Replaced it, and no problems for last several months!!!    :259- :131- :244-  Thanks Poppo!!
