Title: What's going on now?
Post by: slotsx2 on February 08, 2012, 06:34:29 PM
I changed the reels strips and award glass on My Bally 6000.
None of the payouts match the reel strip positions, and the payouts don't even match the AWARD PAYOUTS????

I have done ram clears till I'm sick, nothing changes. I even went as far as putting the glass and strips back on I just took off. and it's doing the same thing. None of the payouts match the reel strip positons, nor do they match the Award payouts???

Anyone have any clue wth is going on??  :103-

A couple things I can think of is possible incorrect reel strips or chips...
                                      or
related to above^^^ slant game strips? Do they make Bally slant machines?
Shows how much I know about Ballys...lol

Used both sets of strips and eproms before, worked perfectly.

When setting up a Bally, do you have to do a RAM clear every time you change a game?
Doesn't it just clear on it's own when you install different chips?

Yes you do.

Okay,
That's good...I learn something new every day here!
Maybe some of the Bally experts might know something more about your machine.

How strange is it that when you put back in the original game strips/chips - THEY now, do not match up.

The ONLY way that can happen is that the chips are definitely wrong or different from what you had in there previously.
I do not think there are any Option Settings that you can change
by the deck buttons that would affect the payout structure of a chip.

Hows this sound? I have swapped reels before when I had like the strip for reel one and reel 3 mixed up. I just moved the entire reels in the correct position for the strip and it ran fine.
NOW, if I move reel 1 to 3 and 3 to 1, they just keep on spinning, just those 2. Reel 2 stays stopped. They won't stop unless I do a ram clear....... WTH????

When something's working, don't mess with it!
I doubt anything's wrong with your reels but I'll bet a million straws of hay when you switch the reels -
some reel pin connector isn't making full contact.
It really sounds like a reel error that would happen if someone tries to
make a switch with the power on - which I'm sure you're NOT doing right?
No matter what - it certainly sounds like bad reel pin connector contacts really.

When you change games, you have to take things out. Never had a problem like this before. The game I took off was running super smooth. Now I can't get it to run even remotely close to matching the payouts to the reel strips. Same with the game I replaced it with. Checked all the chips and the checksums all match..... LOL
Makes absolutely ZERO sense!!!!

Also tried another MPU!

2 machines down, 2 to go................ :208- :208- :208- :208-

OK, after a day and a half of playing around, I checked the eproms and the checksums checked fine. I decided to burn a new set anyway and VOILA..... It ran first try.
The other eproms still check ok, but obviously there is a problem with them. I tried unsuccessfully to erase them 3 times, but they didn't erase completely, so in the trash they went.
I did however come away from this latest ordeal learning not to put too much faith in numbers anymore.....

Case closed!

It's great to hear that you got it running.  :244- :89-
I've ran into some old AM chips that wouldn't erase no matter how long I left them in the UV eraser.
To me that signifies that some of the logic gates inside the chips were "welded".... :72-
If the logic gates are "stuck" - then the chip device won't work correctly even though the checksum value is correct.

I wonder if I'm close to the actual answer with that statement?  :5-

In the end, I did what you did - I flinged those puppies into the garbage can!
