Title: IGT S2000 Double Dollars 5 reel restoration
Post by: Tyler on February 18, 2012, 02:05:59 AM
Hi everyone.
I'd like to share some pics of my Double Dollars 5 reel restoration in progress. What I did is i removed the top glass, unhooked the Mikohn CHAM II progressive controller and power supply out, I used the P.S.P Programmer to reprogram the jackpot amount to clear that dreaded C10 error message on the display. After buying a serial cable for the Cham II and playing around with the P.S.P programmer, I figured out how to clear that C10 error. It worked on my old laptop so I have reprogram handy in case I have to program it again due to a power failure or whenever I wish to change the jackpot amount.
The machine will have brand new reel strips, I'll be on a lookout for them. The originals were mosty damaged because it's pretty much old. Special thanks goes out to those who helped out.

When I played the machine for the first time, I noticed the free spin game has no music. I pulled the MPU board out, examined it, It has a MMLite board with a DSV00042 SIMM installed. It wasn`t the correct hardware to run the music for the free spin game. So I ordered a correct SIMM for the game which is a DSV00082 which is also on it's way from Woodbridge, Virginia.
For this game, I was looking at a $100 to $150 restoration project. Nothing major but it sounds like fun!

The reel strips were a bit of a challenge. I started by scanning the original symbols from the original strips, then recoloured the detail of the symbols using the paint program where there was wear and tear in certain spots (every symbol except the cherries and sevens are still okay). I copy and paste the symbols using Microsoft Publisher on the exact same length and width of each strip. That was the fun part. I took my saved files and the old reel strips to a local print shop where the printing experts do their best they can in restoring those strips. I printed a sample strip and tested it on my machine (fits like a Chinese glove) to verify it is lined up with the payline. The newly printed strips will not be backlit to I'm going to try to remove the backlite lamps.

I just received my new DSV00082 SIMM in today. It didn't take me long to pull out the MPU and replace the old DSV00042 with the new one. I just had to pull that SIMM out of the MMlite board, put the DSV00082 in, slide the MPU back in, fired up my machine and played it. I was literally dancing to the free spin bonus game music once I hit it like four times on the test reel strips (the repros are still work in progress). A special big thank you goes out to Blue Ridge Slots.
