Title: Changing Payout percentage chip on 4th of July machine
Post by: RV Doctor on January 25, 2009, 04:49:59 PM
I have an IGT 4th of July 3 reel slot and I installed a new payout percentage chip which I'd purchased brand new from a slot company in Vegas. I powered down the machine and put the chip into the "Reel Prom" socket being certain to ensure that the notch was correctly aligned. After insertion I reinstalled the processor board and powered up the machine.  The machine lit up and both lamps on the candle  started flashing. However the reels did not do their "trial spin" and none of the stored credits appeared on the credit meter.  The machine would not accept coins (they fell straight through straight into the tray).   I put the original percentage chip back into the machine but the above symptoms still persist.  Was I supposed to do something else when replacing the percentage chip?

Anything on the LED displays?

do you have a ram clear and a set chip?  if the displays are working ok then you most likely need to use a clear and set chip, if the display doesn't work then you need to check the power wire to the motherboard (see pics).  This wire can heat up and loose it's connectivity.

Good luck Doc,
Thanks,
Wayne

You said the reels don't do their start up spin. Are they taut when the power is on? If they spin freely then I'd check the power supply connection that a69mopar posted before trying a RAM clear.

Yes. The "Winner Paid" display shows 61.  It showed 61 after I put in the new payout chip and it  still shows 61 after I reinstalled the original payout chip. The reels do not do their start-up spin and the reels are taut.  Both lamps inside the candle are flashing.

put your new chip back in, when the 61 pops up press the white button till it dings or changes to 61  1 then turn the jackpot reset key, insert coins and play

Easy fix for either chip
The 61 error usually means the CMOS RAM does not match the M/B EEPROM.

Press the test switch until the machine shows 61 1 and dings
Then close the door completely
Turn jackpot reset key

Machine will reset and spin the reels and be ready to play

I was also going to post yesterday afternoon, but everyone else had already beaten me to it. Grass has little chance of growing around here! :5- :97- :97-
