Title: Bally E Series Sound Upgrade
Post by: sudsy7 on February 26, 2012, 11:08:30 PM
Hi,
I have recently acquired a Bally E2241-152 S/N 4.   It is a 3-reel, 5-line pay setup.  It works well.  It has the bell and buzzer which are great, but I thought I might like to upgrade to electronic sound.  The machine doesn't have any of the necessary components (sound board, daughter board, cable, speaker, or transformer).  I'm not even sure the P1 eprom is sound option ready.  There are no markings on it - when I do a test 6, it results in 1.0.7.0.8.5.  I have contacted Barry Fox and he says that is not even a valid program and is probably a rewrite?  If anyone else has any experience with that eprom ID number, please let me know!  Although it looks like it will be an uphill battle to get sound on this machine, I am still determined.  First, if anyone has any of the sound component parts for sale, please let me know (Barry does not have any at this time).  Also, because of the uncertainty of my current eprom not being sound compatible, I would need to find one that has that capability for my machine.  Barry tells me that I would need a program chip P1 to match the strips and the payout.  I'm attaching the payout glass and strip breakdowns in hopes that someone might be able to help me with a new program chip.  I'm pretty new to slots, but I'm motivated to learn quickly to get this machine the way I want.  Thanks for assistance.
John

Some more info that I got from the P1 EPROM:
                D2716
            L1243319S
Might mean something to somebody?

Can one tell if a chip is "sound capable" by the size of the program in the eprom?  What reader/writer is compatible with this D2716 chip?

based on your reel strips - you have a game modified to be used most likely in an arcade (I believe this setup was created by RJ slots in Orange Va - no longer in business) - your #1 reel strip has 11 bells  your #2 has  10 bars symbols -  these are not Bally strips - hence the unknown P1 prom - you are not going to find a sound chip for this config.  You will need to change the reel strips (I don't have any 5 line setups left)  find a P1 with sound to match the strips - then find all the sound parts.........

Thanks for your response Foxsslots.  So I would also need a new payout glass as well, right?  You may be correct about the RJ slots because both the payout and reel glass are identified as "Sunkist Graphics RJ1340", unless Sunkist Graphics had a contract to make glass for Bally back in the day and the "RJ" is just coincidence.  Looks like someone went to a lot of trouble to reconfigure this machine for some reason.   I can see screw holes in the upper compartment (behind the payout glass), and I was thinking that might have been where a sound board and other components had been previously mounted.  There's also quite a few connectors not hooked up to anything.  If it did have sound at some point in its life, it's beyond me why they would have taken that capability away.

Anyway, if anyone knows where I can get a 3-reel, 5-line pay "kit" (with sound capability), please let me know.  Thanks.

You will also need a long ribbon cable to go from the
sound board to the I/O board.  It plugs in directly
into the green socket opposite of the MPU cable
socket.

You may need a piggy back board b4 you plug
the ribbon cable into the I/O board...

Both my E2000's with sound have this setup.

I may have a spare soundboard....
