Title: EPROM Database
Post by: dhellis on March 16, 2012, 05:40:09 PM
I don't know if this is the correct section or if the moderators will get mad or maybe do me a favor and move it
to the correct location.

I have been working on a database for everyone to use and am looking for feedback, as to the look of the database,
this includes the good, the bad and the ugly.

You can take a look by going to http://coinslots.com/roms.php  This website is owned by another NLG member.

I am also  looking for all of your various files so that I can populate this thing with as much information as possible. I have
downloaded a lot of the spread sheets that I have found for some of the Game Maker and Bally 6000 games and I have
put all of this information into the database.

Guess I should also add that I am NOT an expert in web development nor PHP scripting, so would willingly take any advice
along these lines as well

Thanks in advance.

Dan Ellis

OK so I have FAT fingers,,  and the link has been corrected. (Thanks jbshocks)

One other thing. And while it is not important to me, it may be important to others. I am doing this database at no cost. For me it is
purely to educate myself with MySQL and PHP. I have nothing to gain except satisfaction in doing it.

No links to NLG :(

No but that isn't a bad idea, and I am sure that the owner of the website wouldn't mind. Now all I have to do is to figure out how
to embed the link into the PHP script.

I love php yes im sick in the head  :5- :5- :5- 95% of NLG is based on PHP...
Try this code... make a backup of of the file first !!!!!!!!!!! before you edit it of you mite crash the script... :30- :30- :30-
Place this code at the end of the main index.php file. Find at the end of file

</form>

** add **

<center><a href="http://www.newlifegames.net" target="_blank"><img src="http://www.newlifegames.net/images/1nlg.gif" border="0">[/url]</center>

Looks cool.   Are you going to have a process for people to submit missing info?  Will you be wanting to add info from some of the less know brands or just the big guys?  One suggestion would be to have  a drop down pick list for manufacturer and maybe model.

I am not quite sure how to handle allowing folks to update the database. It would be nice if they could but there is one field that has to be unique and I have not yet figured out how to automatically increment the number. So for now I will just ask folks to send updates to dbadmin@coinslots.com and then do the updates myself.

I may have mentioned that I am no expert so the problem with dropdown menu's is that the ideal way would be that when you select, as an example Bally the only things you would see under Make would be those makes that are associated to Bally.

This database is intended to include all machines, not just the well known. One of the entries will be for the Diagnostic chip for the Summit (ugh) machines. To me the value in a database is to find what you need, not just what is new and well known.
The other thing is that to the far right is a simple indication of if the firmware is available by the website owner. If it is marked with a 1 then that firmware is available, a 0 means that it is not.
