I have a Megatouch Maxx that is resetting.  I have a feeling that it may be the power supply.  Does anyone know if this is a power supply that I can purchase at a good computer store?  The ones on eBay seem a bit too expensive.

I've seen plenty of computer power supplies, but haven't ever seen a pic of the ones in the Megatouch games.

Sure.  Here they are.  I know it is a pc power supply, but I don't know if it has any custom or odd-ball connectors on it.

Hello!

That's an old school AT power supply - NOT ATX.  I doubt any local computer store would stock these anymore as the last machine I can remember using these was a Pentium 1.  You can always check - but might be tricky to find...

That motherboard from the pic looks like a standard PC motherboard - like a 386 or a 486.  Haven't seen one of those in awhile :)

Actually - I just looked at the label on the power supply itself and it does say it's an ATX power supply (145 Watts) - they must have a power adapter on it - haven't seen one of those in awhile - they were used to convert a newer ATX supply to work with an older AT motherboard.  I've attached a pic...

So yes - I would think a standard ATX power supply from your local computer store should be fine.  Just save the receipt, just in case :)

You can also buy an ATX and just splice the wires together as all colors are common and the same as the old one.  Not much has changed in terms of power supplies from old to new in terms of voltage (colors are the same) - you can also get a new molex connector and pins for the professional look.

About how many splices are there?  I can live with a few, but it there are a lot, I'd rather get something designed to fit, as it will look much nicer without too many splices.

From the picture I count 10 - was just an option if you did not want to wait etc. 

You can source a replacement as well as noted. 

I have a feeling the adapter is already there - so I don't think he will have to splice anything.  Follow the cables I have the arrow on back to the power supply.  I have a feeling you will find there is an adapter already there....

I was thinking the same thing as there should be one already but I figured maybe not as rob probably would not have asked?    It would be a straight forward replacement then, plug and play.

I usually recap the power supplies in these, however, how often does it reset?  did you clean the cpu fan? Does it boot up all the way each time?  The motherboards can be troublesome in these also.

Hi   check all the caps on the logic board,there are three up near the top ,right side, if the are rounded on the top could be one of your problems. check all the fans, and openings blow them out just for the heck of it,heat build up has been a problem.

I took the power supply out, and there is only a typical 20 pin connector plugged into the rest of the game.  No hard drive power plugs like you would find on a computer PS.  Pin for pin, the wire colors are the same.  The only thing that concerns me is that the Megatouch PS is very small.  I don't know if the local computer place will have one that will physically fit.

Hello Rob,

You mention that it doesn't have any hard drive power plugs on it - but it the picture I can see those type of plugs (see pic below and red circle).  Where do they come from?

Thanks for the tip.  I purchased one similar to this PS last night, and unfortunately, the game still does not work.  The drive will try to start, it loads linux, and then gets to the point where it loads the Megatouch software, but it generally hangs, or reboots.  I am not sure what to do at this point.

Can someone help?

Hmmm...

Corrupt hard drive, bad memory, bad CPU fan, bad caps on the motherboard, bad motherboard... There are quite a few things that can cause reboots.

Rob     check the caps , Merit never did figure out how to cool the cabinet properly, the cpu fan is cheap and goes out all the time, other than that unless you can swap drives or mother boards your at a hard place. You can go to merit indusrties web site and they have all kind of info.there and if I recall , they used to make a upgrade for that machine,but stopped last year or the year before. I think they might advance replace-----but to me the price seems to question weather to do it or not.

If it reboots at the same place then I would first check the HD, then memory.  If random points then power, motherboard etc. 

Hi PinballWiz , when I read your first post I was thinking as you were playng it ,it would just reboot(restart). Than from your other post it sounds like it is starting to boot up then stops and tries to boot again??? Either way,its easy to repair. If it reboots during play,its heat. If it will not finish booting up during the power on,watch the screen and it will say what failed... that is if you see the screen. Tell us more  :96-. And yes,the fans suck in them.
