got the battery installed properly-----now it goes back to code 61---went thru the set up comes back to code61----------do i need to use the dreaded ---CLEAR CHIP--- :8- :8- :8-

If you are sure you are trying to clear it properly, then yes.

With the 61 in the window, push the white test button until you hear a ding or see it flip to 61-1. Close door and latch it completely. Turn reset key ONCE. Game should boot.

Where does that get you?

Also, see knagl's recent post on the 61 loop, if above does not get you going...

i push the testy button goes to 61-1 close door turn reset button blinks a couple of times goes back to 61-----------i have done this several times    :25- :25- :25-

Your in the 61 loop.
You will need to clear chip it to get it going.

As far as I know every 61 loop required a clear chip to get it going again.
S+ isn't hard to setup again.

Sticking a significantly different SP chip in may also get you around the issue, if you have one of those laying around.

I'd try an older SP chip like an SP731 or something similar -
that would adhere to knagl's suggestion of a "significantly different" SP chip....   :71-

Replacing a 1271 with a 1271 wouldn't accomplish anything.  It'd be like removing a quarter from the coin comparator and replacing it with a different quarter.

installed a --sp731--got a 65-1 code cleared that got a 61-1 cleared shut door turn reset key blinks a few times 65-2 pops up--cleared that etc etc 5 times the same thing
guess i  will try the clear chip see what happens :8- :8- :8-

Now's a good time as any to throw back in the SP1271....
if not - the Clear chip is the way to go.

forgot to mention that i put back the sp1271-----keeps going to 61 same as before
i will be doing the -----------CLEAR CHIP--------------

installed the clear chip--------the game started every thing ok just need to install set chip & that should do it
