Title: Want to change Barcrest from .25 to $1 or $5
Post by: machfelon on March 18, 2012, 10:37:24 PM
I have an IGT Barcrest S2000 (King Cash).

Its only a 2 credit machine and not 3 credits so the payouts are somewhat lower than normally seen on a 3 credit machine.

How would I go about changing the denomination for .25 = 1 credit to $1 = 1 credit?

If it's not multi-denom, then you'll need to clear the machine and set the accounting denom at the amount you want it to be. If it IS multi-denom or at least has a multi-denom capable version chip in it, then you should be able to use a keychip and change the player denom to what you want without having to clear the machine. Of course, as always, be sure there are no credits on the machine when you do it

It is not a multi-denom machine.  The glass only gives payouts in credits so I wont have an issue with stuff not corresponding.  I dont have a clear chip can this be done through the menu screen?  All I have is a reset key.

The accounting denom can't be changed without a clear chip. The only thing you can do with a keychip is tokenize the machine so each coin inserted is worth more than 1 credit. What overall effect are you trying to achieve? Without a multi-denom version chip your VFD probably isn't in split-screen mode so there's really nothing on the machine to indicate/give a dollar amount or value to the credits or win amounts. Unless you're using a printer to cash out credits of course...

You cannot change the denomination value of the S2000 without performing a total clear with a clear chip.

Hi Bunker, you can change player denom on the multi-denom machines without a clear chip. If the accounting denom is a penny the player denom can be set at whatever up to $5000 or the limit of your version chip with a keychip. Single denom version chips only have the accounting denom option and must be changed with a clear first

Ahhh! Good stuff to know!
I basically go into the menus and the machine's menu program will let me know if I need a Keychip or a Clear chip.

It's really not necessary to do a full clear to change the denomination from 25 cents to $1.  Just Key chip the machine and change the player denom value from 25 cents to $1...that's it.  The only time you would need to do a full clear would be if you were wanting to go in the opposite direction, say from a $1 to down to 25 cents.  In that case a clear would be necessary to change the accounting and coin denom factors within the key chip menu.

Except in the case of single denom version chips that don't have a player denom option in the menu. Then a clear is neccessary because the accounting denom, being the only option, can only be changed up or down, by clearing the machine

You guys have gotten too technical for me  ;)

How do I get this "key" chip or clear chip?  And whats the process of doing this?  step by step if possible.

My reason for doing this change is simply for aesthetics.  My machine has a Jackpot of 1600 credits.  At 25 cents thats 400.  Its only being played for fun but it just seems cooler if its 1600 dollars than 400 dollars.
Since the glass doesnt have anything permanent referring to actual money payouts only credits I figured it would be simple to change the credits to a high denomination.  I have a $1 and $5 insert to replace it with I just not sure how to do the internal swap.

Sorry, Machfelon, kind of assumed you were more familiar with S2000 menus, my bad. A key chip goes in the SB chip socket on the MPU board as does a clear chip if you need to clear the machine. The key chip simply opens the key chip menu so certain options, like payback percent, player denom and other accounting related settings can be changed. The key chip you will need is a key31 or a key45 and the clear chip would be a clear97 or clear224. If you post a WTB in the classifieds here or contact a vendor they can probably set you up. If you request programming instructions with the chips it will be quite a bit easier to walk you through what you're wanting to do once you get the chips. Until you have those chips there's simply not much you can do at this point. Is there anywhere on the machine, like the blue VFD display below the reels that indicates, in dollars, the value of the credits on the machine?

Can you post a picture of your board and list the numbers on your chips?  This way we can determine if you have MD software.  If it's older SD software, then you may be needing a Key 17 instead of the 31/45.  It's possible that you have MD chips installed, but the casino never set it up for that.  And from the board type we determine what clear and key chips you might need.

Ok as I said early Im a complete noob at this so this.

Alright took photos of the inside of the barcrest.  Appears that the PCBs have a metal cover on them but TBH Im not even sure where the chips would go and which metal cover Id have to remove to get to it.

Can someone explain from these 3 pictures which area Id have to get into and possibly can deduce from images which chips I may need.

If you turn the machine off and off is critical, you can remove the MPU tray. It's the one with the handle on the lower left wall of the cabinet. On the board mounted to that tray you will see 6 chips in sockets. One will be labeled SB with some numbers, 2 will be labeled SG with some numbers, 1 will be labeled VS with some numbers and 2 are RAM chips that probably won't have a label. With the machine off, remove that tray and tell us what the SB, SG, and VS chip numbers are. Never, ever remove parts from your machine with it turned on :60-

Coyboy Forgot one of the more important things. Never ever pull the tray out using your thumb, unless you want to grow a new thumb nail.  Damn it hurts !!!!!!!!!!!!
