Title: red white and blue 5 line software issue resolved
Post by: bhinkley on March 23, 2012, 10:10:29 PM
I am looking to find out if someone has the file(s) that comprise the EPROM chip for an s2000 Red, White, and Blue 5 line theme.  Any help would be appreciated.

Asking for files of copyrighted EPROM's is not allowed
You have to buy the EPROM needed then if you want it backed up use a EPROM programmer to read it and store the file on your computer and maybe back that file up to a USB flash driver or other media.

I am actually trying to find someone that has it to find out if theirs works to write to a EPROM.  My slot dealer tried programming the chip with theirs and it didn't seem to work.  I was reading somewhere that some chips it needs to be copied multiple times to fill the chip.  Could this be the issue?

IF it is an a S2000 SB chip he has to use 27C4002/4096 and have a programmer capable of programming it.
if for some reason the chip fails to program it cant hurt to program it again (if it continues to fail try a different chip)
I had my programmer stop after about 2-5 seconds and making that chip useless until I can erase it, but I try to program the chip a couple times before trying another chip.

if he is trying to program a SS chip which is a S+ reel chip then he can use a 27C512 with an offset of 0000 for use in a S2000 (if the chip is ever going to be used in a S+ then program it again with an offset of C000
whatever the case is he needs to use a chip that is 120ns or faster otherwise the chip will not respond fast enough and the memory test and EPROM checks will fail.

Ask him whether he is trying to program you a  S2000 Base Chip or a S+ SS reel chip.

Thanks for the ideas.  He was explaining what he was doing at each step and I remember he mentioned when we were looking for something in the menus that it was an SS chip.  The speed of the chip is not the issue.  I know that much.  The exact issue is that it appears the machine is regrading the old double diamond info from the old chip.  It was originally a 1 line 3 coin double diamond slot, and when we switched the chips and tried it comes on fine and will play, but the machine only plays 3 credits as a max bet (when it should be 5 with the red white and blue software), and the machine is not registering the correct win lines.  It says I wom when the reels don't show and nothing when it does show a win on the reels.  It is a EPROM with the erase window.  Should I suggest doing the erase via the uv eraser and reprogram or just reprogram it without the uv erase?

Unless you have an EEPROM (which wouldn't have a window), you MUST use a UV eraser and verify that the chip is blank before you can program it.

It sounds like the chip still contains the old program on it. Erase it and then program it with a known good version of the program file.

(As Foster mentioned earlier, we do not permit solicitation of files here on the site.)

Another thing to consider if you are using a SS chip in a S2000 you have to use a SB001000 Base chip.

Are any SG chips needed when using an SB001000 ?
I haven't used an SS chip in an S2000 for a few years now - I've forgotten.

Mark  Yes you have to have SG chips and a SB001000 Base chip.

Thanks Buzz,
I wasn't sure about that because my S2000 manual doesn't specify that.
Maybe this will help others too!  :89-

The SG chips contain the S2000 Operating System

does anyone know if I can take the chip out of mine when I get it back and modify the coding at all to, lets say for example, change the payout amounts for a specific hit?  I am new to owning slot machines and I would like to eventually be able to design a completely custom slot game but don't know if it is possible.

Can you read the data?
What language is it in?

I am not sure, but I would guess binary of some sort.  I don't have a EPROM reader/writer yet so I don't know what the chip holds.

If you decide to design your own slot machine - you really should design your own code.  :89-
Using someone else code in any shape or form would be copy write infringement.  :60-
You could face serious dire consequences.

I'm sure you understand that...   :71-
Good luck with your project!  :89-

I do understand that.  My technique of learning is modifying things that are known to work so I learn how they work and then once I have an understanding of what each part of the code is for then I build my code from the ground up.

My technique is to just take apart things and see what makes 'em tick.  :72-
After I re-assemble everything - I usually have a few extra screws...which I think is okay.  :89-

Means I will have less screws
to mess with when I take it apart again...  :71-

The original issue in the thread has been fixed.  The chips that were on the board were not working well together.  Once the chips were replaced it set up fine.
