Title: BALLY S5500
Post by: reporob on January 28, 2009, 12:29:47 PM
I got the machine working with the help of the experts about two weeks ago.
For that I thank you.
The new "problem" / issue I have is that the reels make this kinda "humming"
noise when they spin. Is that normal or do I have to do some lubing on the reels?
All suggestions are welcome.
Thanx Reporob

I think it is a common thing for the reels to make some noise.   I have a 5500 with three sets of reels and each set makes the exact same noise.  Even the igt s+ that I have makes a humming sound too.

Thanx for the info. I gues I'll get used to it eventually.

You do have music tones when the reels spin don't you?

Yes, the tones are there. It just makes this loud humming/buzzing sound.

I have to tell you I found it very annoying at first too.  That's why I went out and bought a second set only to find out that they made the same sound.
I did come up with the solution:
I bought another slot.  When my wife and I play both machines you can't hear the sound!   Sooooo the moral of the story is buy as many as you can and play several at one time!!!  :72-  :97-  :97-   :97-

That is a solution that makes sense to me  :96-.
I am already looking around for another machine, but for now she can use
some ear plugs :97-.
Thanx for the idea  :97-.

I have a code 80 with 2 blinks per second.  I exchanged the supplement e-proms U3 and U4 as shown in the manual, but still have code 80.  Any suggestions are welcomed.

Was the machine working and this just started to happen?

My dad hit a double double tripple bar jackpot, and we just left it with the credits showing (did not play it off).  When I checked it the next day, it had a code 80 error.

I do that all the time and it shouldn't produce an 80.  Any luck resolving it?  I had the same problem and had to replace the chips to get my 5500 to work again. However - I was changing games and most likely zapped the chips with static electricity by mistake.  Now I keep all my games backed up incase it happens again.

Not yet.  What programmer/copier do you use to back up your chips?? :99- :99-

I use the GQ-4X usb programmer.  It seems to work well.  You should search this board there is a ton of info on programmers/erasers and how to use them.

But as for your code 80 - you are going to have to try another set of personality chips.

pn578, here is a link to a thread about programmers. Peruse that and it may answer many questions that you may have. If there are any other inquiries that were not covered in the thread, just ask away!!

I allways thought on a 5500 you had to change supplement chips in a set of four matched chips     Buzz

Did you perform a saferam clear?  I would remove the eproms and reseat them, one at a time.

80* ROM Checksum Error The checksum of the Main program (U12, U15, U3, U4) or the Personality (U20, U18) does not match the expected checksum.

Would also be a good time to check the battery voltage.

keep us posted,
Wayne

pn578, contact some of the vendors at the Sponsor links toward the top of the page, I'm sure they will be able to assist you.

Wayne is right try that first because it is really unusual for the board to be working and then without being disturbed to throw an 80 like that.

Great.  Send me an email and I will order a set. :3- :3-

I did reset the chips, ran a safeclear, but did not check the battery.  Will do that next.   :79-

I think everyone is right.  but you have to go back to the 4 original Supplement chips before full  saferam clear. I think most 5500 are female they want a little attention you know open the door, fiddle around a little bit, maybe press the right button (reset) now they are happy , hopefully they will play with you.
