Post by: FORDSBS on April 18, 2012, 12:22:38 AM
Does an IGT Vision take the same Multi Media board as an S2000?
Thanks

My vision didn't use a multi-media board. All the sound came from the top box lcd controller, through to the MPU and out to the amp board and speakers

Cowboy,
I have a vision that i wanted to install a MM board in it,if the sound comes from the LCD, that would mean that legacy sounds are your only options.. ? I was wanting to disconnect the LCD and play other S2000 games in the machine Being that the vision games are to hard to get and this is my only S2000.Eventually I wanted to install backlit reels as well

As long as you're using the vision screen you'll be ok without the multimedia board. If you choose to bypass the vision screen for non vision games then you'll need to add a board and sound simm relevant to that game. Vision games generally use a combination of legacy and top box sounds for game play, though I honestly didn't have a chance to install, say, a 42 simm to see if that combination would work. The LCD sounds were fine for me so there was no reason to try it that way.

The neat thing that Vision machines can do with MML2 boards
is that they are able to play just about any SIMM sound card I throw in!
I'm not sure what the chip-based MML1 boards are capable of doing yet...

Bunker,
So you are saying it is possible to install an MML board in a vision but it has to be a MML2 ....I didnt know there were different boards

Mml1 uses imbedded chips instead of a simm card I believe

Both right guys!  :71-
I have NEVER actually seen any sound chips for a MMLB1 anyways so I don't really know WHAT it can do.
The MMLBII board is the one that uses a SIMM card which is really
an old desktop computer RAM memory card that we use to use a long time ago.
It has flash memory but IGT used it for storing slot machine sounds on the S2000 platform instead of eprom chips.

Just don't expect the IGT sound SIMM to work if you put it into your old computer.... You will not get enhanced sounds, just some SMOKE probably!!! :200- :72- :97-  IGT just used an industry standard socket and designed their sound SIMM to fit in it.

The MMLI board just uses standard 4 or 8 Meg eproms from before the sound SIMMS came out. You use this more on earlier GameKing and earlier iGame titles. I have never seen an S2K kit that uses the MMLI,with sound eproms..... Has anyone else? Curiosity! :103-

The mention of embedded chips (flash chips) on a board is probably actually referring to the newer "R" flash board (daughter board) that plugs on top of an S2000 Enhanced MPU board.
