Title: bally relay
Post by: flats on April 27, 2012, 02:54:44 PM
Have a double or nothing slot. In the top are two banks of relays.  One bank has all my payout relays, the other has the two handle relays, collect relay, anti cheat, and a socket for a plug in relay which is missing. Can anyone tell me the purpose of this relay and what I need to plug into this socket?

Anti cheat relay is to stop people, um, cheating. It's a holdover from the bingo pinball ancestry of Bally slots, where its action was to count down the credits to zero if the machine was turned off and on again. It closes the payout circuits - no payout is possible when it's not pulled in, as for example when the machine is first turned on. It gets pulled in when the handle is pulled, and latches itself, and only drops out again when the machine is turned off or one of the tilt slam switches operates. They're not common on ex-casino Bally machines because they cancel the rest of the payout if you get a power cut part way through, and that's against Nevada law, but who knows what goes on elsewhere and in gray areas.

If it ever burns out you can just disconnect its coil and jam the armature down with a wad of paper.
