Title: Bally 5500 Game Kit Question Post by: jdkmunch on February 01, 2009, 05:04:35 PM Hi Everyone - Someone found this Devils and Diamonds game on Ebay for me and my question is will this work in a 5500. I can see from the picture that the reel glass will not work because of the credit positions but will the game work?

Title: Re: Bally 5500 Game Kit Question Post by: a69mopar on February 01, 2009, 09:38:17 PM This game has a bonus feature on it, I'm not sure if it will work, I usually go the other way, S5500 themes in S6000. I will check my top boxes between the two to see if the connector is the same on each. Worst case scenario you would have to buy a S6000, hmmm.
Thanks, Wayne Title: Re: Bally 5500 Game Kit Question Post by: jdkmunch on February 01, 2009, 09:40:15 PM I know :3-
Just out of curiosity - is it possible to convert a 5500 to a 6000? Is it just the MPU or the whole gizzards? :103- Title: Re: Bally 5500 Game Kit Question Post by: tacman on February 01, 2009, 11:44:11 PM That's a great looking kit, don't know if its rare or hard to get. He's got 2 avaialble, but OUCH!!! :25- :25- :25- A little pricey! :79-
Dan (tacman) Title: Re: Bally 5500 Game Kit Question Post by: jdkmunch on February 02, 2009, 12:19:25 AM It is a nice looking game. The price is really high though considering you can buy a whole 6000 for almost the cost of the kit. I may go for it if it will work that is :25-

Title: Re: Bally 5500 Game Kit Question Post by: paul on February 03, 2009, 12:10:04 AM That should work in a 5500 also reel glas should work but the reel glass wont work in a 6000 the game is similar to double diamond
Title: Re: Bally 5500 Game Kit Question Post by: jdkmunch on February 03, 2009, 05:11:22 PM OK the kit is mine.. after some negations on price. I will report back and let you know if it does indeed work. My gut feeling is that it will not. As Wayne said.. All I have to do is get a 6000 :3-
I wonder if SlotDeals has some left for $200? I would love to drive there and pick up a couple. 10 hours away though :37- :37- :37- Title: Re: Bally 5500 Game Kit Question Post by: xkey on February 03, 2009, 09:12:57 PM I think that you are going to have a few issues, if I remember correctly, I tried putting an S6000 into a 5500 chassis and it didn't fit, I think the mpu has different connectors on it, they did not line up correctly.

Title: Re: Bally 5500 Game Kit Question Post by: jdkmunch on February 04, 2009, 12:27:44 AM I didn't get them yet - When I do I'll post the numbers
Title: Re: Bally 5500 Game Kit Question Post by: a69mopar on February 05, 2009, 01:58:09 AM Sorry for the delayed reply. The top box 9 pin connector is the same in both the S5500 and the S6000(pretty sure this theme uses it.). The personality files would be U18 and U20, I think the game should work as long as the S5500 mains were designed to perform similar functions (hope that makes sense), however there is only one way to find out.
as for changing the mpu, the board is smaller on the S5500, It is wired a little different also so changing the backplane and mpu board and rack wouldn't work, you would have to change the harnesses also. This wouldn't be worth the effort when you could just pick up an S6000. Thanks, Wayne Title: Re: Bally 5500 Game Kit Question Post by: jdkmunch on February 10, 2009, 08:06:11 PM Hi Everyone! I got the kit today and plugged it in and it works ! It plays and pays perfectly.
Here comes the BUT I don't have the top box connector so I can't plug in the bonus round indicator - When I get the three special symbols that initiate the bonus round, it pays the appropriate amount but does start spinning the free games. Do you think this will work when I scrounge up a connector ? :103- Also I got a whole bunch of chips with this thing that I have no idea what to do with. Here are the numbers and a bad picture of them: 1 - PS0000000020-00 8Mb L98-1842 1 -U28 S6M1MM1B0008-00 ST CS:26FC L05-2923 1 - U43 S6M1MM1B0008-00 ST CS:0400 L05-2923 1 - U28 S6M1000A0008-00 2MB (BAD3) L04-1590 1 - U43 S6M4000A0008-00 2MB (2D00) L04-1590 What port on the motherboard would the top box connector go? If that connector does not have two way communication then the bonus game will not work. My thinking is this - the bonus feature circuit board on the glass counts down from 10 free spins to 0 each time sending the signal back to the MPU to spin the reels. Title: Re: Bally 5500 Game Kit Question Post by: jdkmunch on February 10, 2009, 10:28:55 PM I started a new thread and put a picture up regarding the bonus round connector. It looks like the connector is 20 pins. Does this make sense to anyone?
