Title: williams X FACTOR dot matrix slot -swapping power supply
Post by: azgamingslots on June 05, 2012, 08:50:16 AM
have an x-factor i acquired several years back, it was missing the power supply box.  finally came across one.  however when hooking it up, most  all connections fit except..., noticed the connection to the main transformer (J-10) was 16 pin and not 12 pin type like the plug is in the machine.
comparing the board in the power supply it is an: a-18938-03 (1996)  this machine needs a 18938-01 board (1994) with 12 pin connector.

i don't mind doing a Frankenstein on the power supply if it will fix the prob.  however has anyone else improvised with success?  will changing out the transformer fix the prob -or cutting and changing the wiring to the existing transformer rectify the situation, or am i just going to end up frying the machine?  -thanx

Just change the power supply.
I'll check and see if the two I have are the one's you need.
Just to be clear you need a 12 pin transformer?

i have a Williams dot matrix with external 12 pin transformer. (only 8 wires are used)

acquired a power supply with 16 pin connector to transformer.
can the 16 pin power supply be adapted to the 12 pin transformer?
i attached pics

OK, I had it backwards. I did check and do ave the transformers with the 12 pin connector. However we now know you already have this.
Next let me check an see if I have any of the 12 pin power supplies.
I have not run across a mod to convert from 12 to 16 pin

i suppose it would be easier just to find a w/ps with 12 pin ( j-10) connection,
they're not the easiest thing to find, since the whole power box is robbed from a spare machine rather than fix the problem.

i have the box and the wiring, definitely need the greenboard with 12 connecting j-10.
looks like swapping the boards should work,  unfortunately the internal power supply included is only 12 volt (see picture)
i believe this wms 360 needs 5v, 12v and -12v.   so i need to track down one of those as well
if you have a pic -that would be great. azgamingslots@msn.com.  ps i have a complete x factor slot, so repairs aren't too difficult -it's just finding the parts.

Here are some pictures of the board. Like I said in my email before the fuse is missing at F2

I also have new lower power supplies, but they are pricey or I can provide you a used one that will need to be rebuilt.
Adrian does good work with these power supplies and will warranty his work. Also very reasionable. Here is his web page.
