Title: need shipping advice on my S2000 asap
Post by: osso12 on June 06, 2012, 04:06:44 PM
Just got a text that a guy wants my TDWC S2000.
I have never shipped one of these things before. I am in texas, he is in PA.
WTD? Safest and cheapest please. I do not live by a trucking company but ups and usps is next door.

 Pennsylvania    Pre-1941    18 PA C.S. 5513
well I guess thats that.

I have a question. Is it "legal"  for a home user to ship a machine across state lines to a legal state without being registered to the DOJ?

ok.. he wants the machine irregardless... he says he wants to change it to use tokens......
so what are the legalities and what do I have to do to the machine so I can ship it without any issues legally?
He says he will be responsible for the outcome? grrrrr...
how do I get myself into this stuff...

just called a local dealer...they said he cannot legally own any machine newer than 1941 in the state if PA regardless.
and if I ship it, its on me. He said the only way I could legally sell it is for him to drive to texas, he purchase it and it would be on him as to get it back to PA.
Not worth it in mho. Lesson learned.

I've had a few shipped to me under similar circumstances and haven't had a problem. Everyone that shipped them to me had good pricing from the trucking companies because they ship a lot thouvh. When I've tried to do it myself it was well over $1000. I'd worry more about the cost than where it's going I guess

As far as the law is concerned, if it can take coins or currency and/or is easily converted to do so it's a gambling device. Just because he says "I'm only using it for fun" doesn't negate the fact that it's a gambling device. If that were the case people in every illegal state would have them and say the same thing and the market for used machines would be REALLY good. If you ship to an illegal state AND it gets shagged along the way by the authorities it will be all on you up till the point where he accepts delivery. At that point you at least get to share the penalty with him. Him under state law for possesion and you under federal law for shipping gambling equipment to an illegal state. What are the odds of it happening you ask? Pretty damn slim, but there's odds, which means it can.

Do you feel lucky punk? Do you?

LOL, just messing with you there, but I'm telling ya how it is...

yea... I finally talked some sense into him... He finally backed down...
When he found my deleted ad on craigslist and he was from PA, that should have been my first flag somethings not right.
I educated him the best I could, showed him the statue...and he still wanted ME to convert it for him. Once I convinced him it would have to be professionally converted to a non coin machine, and find one that would also ship it to him (leaving me out of it) he finally gave up.
My hunch is he has been looking for awhile.. can't say I blame him but how do I not know that he might have been the Feds texting me to see if id sell em a machine and ship it across state lines........ ehhhhhh NOT.......lol
At the time of my OP i did not realize he was in an illegal state to own anything but pre 1950.
I stay in trouble most of the time as it is, no need to have those kind of issues over $700. But I got to admit.. I could have bought TWO IGT S2000's with $700.
Yall guys got me hooked. I need therapy class. LOL!  :89-

Why not just partly unscrew about 8 screws from the door hinge, undo the door harness connector & retainer wire
and mail them the door complete -
and the cabinet separate?

Would that break any laws at all?
After all, both shipments can be easily written down as "parts-only".... right?

Bunker,

In most illegal states, parts for gaming machines are just as taboo... also it would not take much for the authorities to figure out the two shipments go together as one... It all depends on the person, and how risk averse they are or not.
