Why do some S+ reels wobble?  And why do some reels make noise?

It would seem that you should be able to *fix* whatever is causing the problem.

Thats a good question...I would like to know the answer too.  I have an S-plus, S2000 Vision 3-reel, a S2000 4-reel, and a S2000 Reel Touch 5- reel....and all the reels wobble.  On the other hand...my Bally 6000 reels are true perfection, no wobble, and snap into position after a spin like closing the door on a Porche.  Hmmm.....quality of design???  :103-

It is strange... I don't notice this on my Haywire Deluxe but I read about this in a few threads.  There has got to be a solution other than replacing the reel.   

Fixing the wobble would require either new reel baskets, or careful tweaking of the spokes.
I have tried the later and it helps reduce the wobble.

I have not come across any noisy reels in my S+ or S2000 with S+ baskets.
The back lit reels do seem to have more of a start and stop sound to them but I attribute that to type of baskets back lit reels use and the fact I had to loosen up the baskets to fit my strips that are back lit.

Well, if the reel baskets wobble from side to side due to too much play on the shaft then a quick fix is to pull the whole reel and lay it on its side with the cap attaching the basket to the shaft pointing up (as shown with red arrow in pic). Support the back part of the reel assembly on a wood block or book. then take a nutdriver, slightly larger than the center cap, place it over the cap and tap with a hammer, play in the shaft will also produce a noisy reel. There are times where the baskets themselves will warp due to heat, etc. this could cause the basket to become more oval or spread the basket farther than the strips, I know of no fix for this other than replacing the basket. The green arrow in pic shows a flat part of the basket, S2000 backlit baskets are notorious for warping.

Wow! I'm impressed!  Did you have that picture already or did you make it up for this?  It is great to know!  I bet for the oval type warp you could heat up the basket to bring it back into alignment.

Hand held heated paint stripper gun would work...for trying to get the flat spots out of those plastic reel baskets.
also, better and more cooling fans in the machine to get all that hot air out.

I'm surpised I had an S+ reel left around. I guess a hair dryer or other controllable heat source could heat it up enough, but you would need steady and quick hands to try and set it. I know that latex halloween masks, when heated by a hairdryer will pop back to their original mold shape, don't know about the reels though. :103-

lol....yeah heat gun maybe too much...you'd need to fashion some type of temporary mold/holder or the reel baskets will be slapping against the roof of the top box!

At least I know what to look for.

1.  If the reels start to wobble - wait several hours to sober up
2.  After a few hours if they continue to wobble - consume some adult beverage to counteract the wobble
3.  If 1 and 2 don't work -  Try to straighten them out as described in the above posts.
