Title: hearing static noise from right speaker only now?
Post by: staz on June 19, 2012, 01:08:26 AM
i swapped out boards put a 504b in my top dollar when i turn it on i here like engine noise coming out of the right speaker only...... tried 47ohm and 10ohm resisters..... they got rid of the noise but sound suxx had to put it on 10 to barely hear it....what next? :103- :103- kinda weird how only right side i here  static noise.....

Honestly Staz the 504B shouldn't require resistors on the speakers at all. First off I'd try swapping the speaker leads in the top box to see if the problem stays with the speaker. If it does, then you have a bad speaker. If it moves to the other side then you may have an issue with either the amp board or the MPU. You might even try swapping the reels out of your other game to see if you have a reel motor going bad and putting excesive noise in the lines

Just sitting idle it makes that noise eh?  Amp boards are pretty cheap.  Or swap it with your WOF amp to see if it makes a difference.

Like cowboy said, with a 504b, you shouldn't need resistors.  Couple more things...

If the resistors are taken out of the equation again, does the same noise occur?

Make sure resistors are wrapped in electrical tape.  If the resistor leads are touching the cabinet or anything metal, you'll get some funk in your sound, or worse.

if i use the resisters the noise goes away but the sound is horrible playing the machine i can barely here it!!! set at 10 on volume...... also another factor i noticed is if i disconnect the top dollar led controller board on top box the noise goes away...what could be causing it.....

Just keep unpluging and pluging in  stuff for sure soon you burn  something out and  you,ll have no hum, bought brand new pinball right out of box it hummed when display change, but its a pinball machine not $3000 tv or stero , somethings you learn to live  with

If you didn't have this problem with the old board then the 504B board you got has a problem.

Can you swap the sound amplifier board from your other machine to see if there's any change?
Do you have this problem with your other machine?
If not, then the other "Known-Good"  machine would be an excellent parts tester!  :71-

Swap out one part at a time until you get crappy noise with the "Known-Good" machine
and you'll have your answer as to what is "bad"!!

I'd start with somewhat simple swap 1st like a sound amp board.
