Just for kicks...check the battery voltage on your MPU?
A low battery seems to be the cause of a lot of problems.
Should read at near or above 3 volts DC.

most common cause of this in the casino world is a bad DC switching power supply, located behind the reels on an upright machine.  if you don't have a known good one to test with then you probably won't get much further.  you could pull the power supply out and change the following capacitors, we've had about a 75-80% success rate with bringing them back to life. some caps on this list may have higher voltages than what you are taking out; it's OK to go up in voltage but don't change the microfarads on them! :81-  also watch for physical size of the replacement caps getting too big, there's not much extra room in there.  good luck!! :89-

also sometimes if the machine has recently been moved you might need to just pull out the MPU and push it back in with the power off ofcoarse and make shure the power supply is pushed all the way to the right

How about checking that the machine in question that none of the wires going to the display are being pinched in the door hinge.

I know someone that moved the wires so they got pinched every time the door was closed
He could not figure out why the door got harder to close after doing it
I noticed it and quickly corrected his mistake his machine was also malfunctioning.

Also I have noticed that the MPU might need a slight push on it to make sure that the connectors are fully connected.
