Title: Bill Acceptor Pay Mode question Post by: sblair on June 25, 2012, 02:51:29 AM I'm rebuilding another S+ machine here and ran into a weird issue with the Bill Acceptor. No matter what I do it always pays out from hopper when accepting a bill. I can toggle the Cash/Credit either on or off but it always does a payout when inserting a bill. My understanding of the options is that it will either ALWAYS go to credit OR will function based on the Cash/Credit button state. I wasn't aware of a setting that would always force it to act as a bill changer.
Is there a setting I've missed or does it sound like a hardware failure somewhere? Thanks. What SP chip is in your problem machine? Title: Re: Bill Acceptor Pay Mode question Post by: sblair on June 26, 2012, 12:27:25 AM It has an SP872 chip. The theme is "Balloon Bars"
Title: Re: Bill Acceptor Pay Mode question Post by: knagl on June 26, 2012, 07:29:56 PM I've attached the SP872 PSR to the bottom of this post. In particular, note:
Quote If DIP switch 4 is on, the bills-to-hopper option is automatically enabled and all inserted bills are paid from the hopper, regardless of the game's credit type. If DIP switch 4 is off, the operator can specify in self test how inserted bills are paid. Payment can follow the player-initiated credit type, it can be set to override the game's credit type and always pay cash only, or it can be set to override the player-initiated credit type and always pay credits only. Make sure you have no credits on the game, turn the power off, remove the board, and ensure that DIP switch 4 is set to "off". Once you've done that, go into the self test menu. On the page zero options, set 5 to 0, and 8 to 1. That combination will send all wins and all bills to the credit meter. Title: Re: Bill Acceptor Pay Mode question Post by: sblair on June 26, 2012, 07:39:39 PM Thanks very much! I'll try to check that tonight. I'll have to see if I remember how to use my secret decoder ring to navigate the self-test displays :)
Title: Re: Bill Acceptor Pay Mode question Post by: knagl on June 26, 2012, 08:06:55 PM Heh, well, there are always the Rookie sheets to help: http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=16920.0
I'd start with the DIP switch, though. Hopefully it's on, and turning it off may be all you have to do. Assuming that DIP switch 4 is on right now, I'd turn it off, put the board back in, and then try the machine to see how it behaves (before even attempting to mess with the self test setup pages). Title: Re: Bill Acceptor Pay Mode question Post by: sblair on June 27, 2012, 04:57:49 AM I feel like a freaking idiot. I've been an embedded software engineer for 17 years and have had to design challenged UI's before but this takes the cake. It's not helping me that every set of instructions I read is similar but contradictory it seems. I know I could have designed something more intuitive than this.
So, I press the white self test switch twice. The solenoid clicks. I then have 0 in Coins Paid. 2nd digit(from the right) Winner Paid is 0. 1st digit in Winner Paid is 0 and flashing. I turn the reset key 8 times so that the 1st digit in Winner Paid is flashing 8 and Coins Paid is still 0. This is the point where it goes pair shaped... 1. Am in the right place so far? 2. Where do I go from here? Thanks. Scott Title: Re: Bill Acceptor Pay Mode question Post by: knagl on June 27, 2012, 06:55:27 AM Heh, don't worry about it, it really is convoluted until one day it'll click and it'll all make sense.
First, is DIP switch 4 set to OFF on your MPU board? You've got to check that first, because if it's set to ON, you won't be able to fix the problem in the self test menus. If it was on, turn it off and test your machine to see if it's working as you want it. If not, continue. From your description, it sounds like you were in the page to set the SAS address (if your machine was on a casino network), and you set it to address 008. :) (No harm done.) You needed to press the self test button once more to get to the page 0 options. (I know the Rookie sheet says twice on the Self Test page, but it varies by SP chip, and yours likely needs one more press.) You'll see 0 in Coins Played, and should likely see 5 1 in the Winner Paid display (or 5 0, or something similar). Then start turning the JP reset key, and follow along in the PSR for your SP chip, which should help you get to the right place. Title: Re: Bill Acceptor Pay Mode question Post by: sblair on June 27, 2012, 04:04:39 PM Thanks! I'll give that another try. The DIP switch appeared to be on so I turned it off but there was no change.
I hate the rocker type switches where it is slightly ambigious. Title: Re: Bill Acceptor Pay Mode question Post by: sblair on July 01, 2012, 03:42:04 AM Yep, that got it! I just needed to go one hit further on the self test button. Thanks guys!!
