Title: Casinos in Indiana
Post by: DannyG804 on June 27, 2012, 05:33:56 PM
Ok, I would like to visit some casinos in mid/south Indiana. Tell me your opinions on them, for those that have heard about or visited any of them. Thank you!

All that is below is a matter of opinion. Its based on my own experiences so it may very from others. Just as a demographic check, I'm 31 and play mostly slots while I'm in a casino so I don't know a whole bunch about how table games are at any of these places. We frequent Indiana casinos pretty regularly since we live about 15 minutes from the Indiana border in northern Kentucky.

Out of the casinos close to us my favorite is Belterra casino in Vevay. We have 3 within about a half hour of us and Belterra is the furthest away but its the one we go to the most. Great buffet, nice rooms, and a good layout of machines/tables. I seem to do better there than anywhere else also. They also have the largest selection of penny slots in the area if you like them. I was just there last Tuesday night and Wednesday afternoon.

My next favorite is Hollywood Lawrenceburg. Its newly remodeled and huge. Never ate there or stayed there so I know nothing of their food or hotel but I've heard both are nice. It doesn't feel like a riverboat at all since its a giant building permanently mounted on the water at this point. Great atmosphere with most of the dealers being celebrity impersonaters. Live music going on most of the time from their fake celebrities as well. Tons of machines and tons of options that are all pretty well layed out. Its the closest to my house (about 15 minutes) and we play here a decent amount of time as well.

The third and least favorite is Rising Star in Rising Sun Indiana. There isn't a whole lot that I'd say good about this place but some people love it. I've never stayed in their hotel but I've ate there and their food wasn't very good at all. Its a true riverboat that is 4 levels and its very cramped. With the design of the boat, the layout isn't great... several spots on the boat where its tough to get through and backups occur frequently. They definitely market themselves towards an older crowd. My grandpa and his gf like it there a lot but its just not for me. I've never done very well there the 5 or 6 times I've been there and I just don't have a good time while I'm there either. Obviously others opinions may vary.

I've also been to Live up south of Indy which is part of Indiana downs. Its a fairly new place as well that is really nice. Has a big open airy feel to it since its mainly on one level and everything is spaced out well.

:259- for taking time to give a lengthy reponse and opinion! I plan on going to Hollywood casino in Lawrenceberg. Some others have also suggested it. I am a slot guy myself. Usually $.25 and $1 slots - preferably 2 or 3 cm. I love those s2000's - what can I say? I might try and tag another one nearby too like the Crown Victoria / Rising Sun! I'll post again after my trip with my experience and thoughts. Thanks again.

Crown Vic is now Rising Star... just an FYI. It was sold a while back and rebranded.

You'll enjoy Hollywood, they have like 3000 machines so the selection is great. Tons of S2000s still. I always like to go play the machines that I have at home and Hollywood has all 3 of mine still. There is a bank of "Return of the Pharaoh" quarter machines to the left when you first walk in. I've never walked away from those machines with less money than I've walked up to them with.

:137- The verdict is in! I went to the Hollywood Casino in Lawrenceberg. This is easily my top 3 of all time! Great layout of s2000's in just about every theme IGT ever made!!! Of course, they had all my favorites  :89- it was really clean an the high ceiling made the smoking seem not as bad. Great time overall - I hope to make it down there one more time this summer! Oh, I ended up losing  :30-

I usually go to the Michigan casinos and the only one worth mentioning that is close to this one is the Soaring Eagle in Mt. Pleasant. This one also has many s2000's and various theme selection.

Happy 4th to all NLG members!  :137-  :137-   :137-
