Title: problems with a Gottlieb Royal Flush EM oinball machine
Post by: BR549 Auto Sales on July 06, 2012, 12:52:04 AM
I have a Royal Flush pinball that when I push the credit button, player 1 and 2 will not cycle around to all zeros, 2nd thing is that when the 500s points rolls over to 900 it does not advance the next reel over up one thousand, and one last thing when the ball hits the drain and is sent back to the plunger area, instead of it going to ball 2, it cycles through players 1-4 and goes to player2, 3 and 4 after each consecutive drain. I have checked all of the relays in the right side of the top box and they are all gapped correctly and open and close in the proper postion when I manually engauge the relay. Any ideas as to what else I can check?

Thanks,

David

Is the non zero unit one of the relays on the right side in the backbox or on a score reel itself? As far as the broken wire on the 1000 point unit, same question on the reel or one of the relays in the backbox? Will this cause the problem of not advancing to ball 2,3,4,5 and going to player 2,3,4 instead after the ball goes down the drain and is sent back to the plunger?

look at reels 1st if it was a relay  more than 1 player would have score trouble

Players 3 and 4 will cycle around to all zeros but player 1 and 2 will not. As far as the 500 points not advancing to 1000s thT is common on all 4 players

You have 3 problems with your machine. Contacts, contacts, and contacts.

The score reels are notorious for getting out of line, and must be adjusted. You will need to spend several hours cleaning and adjusting the leaf contacts in the score reels and the relays in the backbox. Actually you should spend a whole day cleaning and adjusting the contacts.
Use your fingers with the power off to engage, and disengage the relays, and look at the contacts. Make sure they close and open when they should. You can adjust them with a contact tool, or with a small needlenose pliers.
You can use a fine grit emery board or even a strip of business card to clean the contacts during adjustment. 90% of all problems will go away by doing this. Yiou don't even need a schematic if you systematically clean and adjust the contacts. I have resurrected completely dead machines just by doing this, and you will notice a world of difference in the game play. The solenoids strike much better, and the game will be fun again!!!
Good luck.

Dave

PS a very good site to go to is www.pinwiki.com for lots of tips om older em games.

when the score unit (reels) resets  at 0 in front a set of points will open  to stop the coil from advancing the reel any more but it reel has dirty points it may not get to 0  best bet is to setup to 0 with you pushing in coil pluger by hand to 0 and see if game starts, also check all plugs to make sure they are  making a good connection, it takes time put nothing on a em you can,t fix
