Title: How Do I Remove The Top Award Glass On My S+
Post by: riverratmike on July 11, 2012, 03:46:59 AM
Just can figure it out. There are 4 Philips screws on the top. I removed those and I couldn't budge anything. Any ideas?

normally there is a removable cover (no tools required) at the bottom of the award glass.
either it is about 1/2"-1" no player tracking or about 3" player tracking version
I had a 1994 S+ without player tracking the bracket was about 1/2"-1"
if you look at my picture -avatar you will see that mine is about 3" tall with a player tracking system - my machine is a S2000 the S+ with player tracking looks similar (no speakers in that area on the S+)

In either case carefully pull out at the bottom (right above the reels the top edge of the door covers it when closed)
a small screwdriver may help in getting it to move if you cant do with your fingers
There are even finger cutouts in the top edge of main cabinet so you can get your fingers on the bracket
In case you got one of the poorly designed one piece cover/brackets place your hand on the glass so it does not fall out.
if the glass stays in place, lift it up and over the tabs holding onto it firmly but gently and lower it enough that you can remove it.
try not rub the back of the glass against the bracket or other sharp items (you can damage the artwork)

Here are a couple of quick pictures. Should apply to both RT and others. After popping the bottom of the tracking bar cover off, the top of the cover is held on by some clips that fit the the slots, but it should come right out if you pull the bottom out first. Once the cover is removed, the glass is slid up and over the tabs (circled). Round top glass can be a little trickier as it's a tighter fit.

On the bottom picture, I'm just holding the tracking bar cover up with my hand to show the slots it clips into.

To slide the glass up, I either stick my fingers in one of the larger openings to grasp the glass from front and back, or GENTLY lift it up with a screwdriver. As Foster noted, be careful not to let the back of the glass scrape on the bracket.
