Just picked up my first S+ Double Diamond Deluxe. Came from the Trump casino in Atlantic City. It's a 1996 model. Seller sold it for $350. It's a 25 cent machine with BV and works quite well. It was full of nicotine stains inside but it's all cleaned up now. What do I need to know about this machine? Anything? I noticed a key on top of the MPU board in the back of the machine. Don't know what that is for. Also I'm trying to clear the machines credits but can't figure that out either. It has over 1000 credits. I have questions like is there Volume on this machine, what's the loud clicking noise I hear when playing for, how to get into the option settings etc. Here are a couple of photos.

If the key is a double sided key with 2341 stamped on it that is the Jackpot reset key.

Volume knob is on the MPU board top left area near the left top where the mpu board is sticking up through the metal.

There is a white button next to the power switch that is the test/attendant switch
It along with the jp key and the player buttons are used to access the menus and options on the machine (some settings can only be changed with the right set chip

I forgot to say the clicking you here is the handle solenoid
if it clicking only 3 times that is the reel stop sound
it will also click when you drop in the first coin or press the bet one credit button to release the handle and will release once the reels start spinning then click as the reel stop (sometimes the timing is off. but still effective for sound effects

you can press the cash out button to have the hopper pay off the credits. you may have to refill the hopper once you see 3300 flashing on the player display. (means coin out time out) hopper is empty (it is not empty jus the agitator and wheel cant grab the remaining coins. the time out occurs because no coins have passed through the coin out optics within a set period time.

I happen to have that theme in my S2000.
only difference is mine is Round Top (I have one machine and change the top box between 9" same size as yours and Round Top)

The clicking he's hearing might be the hard meters, which are located to the right of the reels and can be seen with the door open.

To clear out credits, you must play them until you lose, or press the Cash Out (or "Cash/Credit") button which will likely require all of the coins to be paid out of the hopper before you'll be able to do anything else.  If you run out of coins, you must keep refilling the hopper until all of them are paid out.

As Foster mentioned, there is some good reading under the blue "Rick's FAQ Files (http://www.newlifegames.net/faq1/)" button in the upper-right corner of the page.  Please read through that stuff which will answer a lot of questions about your machine.

One of his machines has them
They drive me crazy on the S2000 due to the accounting denomination being $0.01.
My machine I removed many years ago.
They are definitely louder on the S+ though.

For the S+ you can unplug the meters without causing a problem.

One question though. Don't understand what a (clear chip) is? Is this some kinda chip I have to purchase? I think I might need to have one just incase something goes wrong.

A clear chip will clear the CMOS and EEPROM. Normally not needed unless you get in a 61 loop. But handy to have on hand.

You can also clear the credits by pulling the CMOS chip on the MPU and reinstalling it. You will get a few errors that can be cleared easily, but it beats refilling the hopper.
