Title: Video corrupt on Aristocrat 540
Post by: danvr on September 18, 2008, 05:39:09 PM
I initially had meter corruption and replaced the b/u battery and attempted a ram reset.  However, the screen now shows video corruption (screen is full of coloured squares).  Does anyone know the cause or a way to perform a video ram reset?  Thanks for any assistance.  Cheers from Downunder.

Hi

Dont have a machine in the shop right now but it goes something like this.
With the door closed turn and hold the reset key that gets you in the meter screen.
Now open the door and turn and hold the jackpot reset key.
Press the right 3 buttons on the processor tray.
Machine will display ram clear performed.
Depending on software you may need to set some options.
When done close machine door and release both reset keys.
Machine should now be back in operation.

Regards
Ian

Hi

There are currently a few Aristocrat manuals in the submit new file section. Check it out and let us know if any of them are for your machine.
Sparking sound from the CRT is not good. Could be a damaged flyback transformer. Check who made it. Most old aristos i have come across use Ceronix. You can downlaod all the manuals for the CRT from their site and also get spares from them at very reasonable prices. If its from a different vendor also let us know so someone can help with a service manuals.

Hi Guys!

I own an Aristocrat 540 - Grand Jackpot - MK IV, which has a picture error....

[ small colored lines all over the screen ]

I have had several problems with that machine in the past, but in this case - I think it's my fault - because I did a degauss which have had an impact to the mainboard. For test purposes I have attached a LCD screen to the video output of the mainboard with the same result as you can see on the picture.

Any idea where it could come from? Condensor?

Thank you very much in advance for your support!

Leonardo

Siciliano.

Are the lines always in the same position or are they moving ?

You might have a bad SRAM chip U49, that would be the first thing to check. There's several chips in the CRT circuit , the CRT controller and a couple
of programmable AND arrays so it might be best to find another mainboard because anything could be wrong it.

If the lines are moving then I would be looking at the power supply, it might be on its way out.

Thank you for your quick reply, palindrome!

Yes, they are moving... but if I remove the chip U73 (labled VID33), it shows a clean stable picture with lot of zeros...

Will do as next...

It's quite impossible to get a such board in Switzerland  :103-

? Does anybody have a spare MK IV board

? Can you imagine, how a degauss can have a such impact to the mainboard

Sorry. I have edited my post.

SRAM is U49 just below VID1, not U59.

You can order a mainboard from the U.S.

By removing U73, the SRAM chip is not enabled or selected.

That is why you get screen full of zeros and the CRTC has nothing to display.

:131- palindrome - you are my personal hero  :131-
 :244- :244- :244- :244- :244- :244- :244- :244-

you were right !!! it was the RAM-Chip of the video circuit.

Maybe it was caused by an overvoltage during the degauss? Who knows...

Thank you so much! May I send you a little something as appreciation of your efforts?

I doubt degauss was responsible for it but what would I know ?

You just have to be extra careful when you handle chips in future, get yourself an anti static wrist strap.

Also bare in mind that this machine was in a casino and operated daily for over 10 years, chips get hot
and they start to fail after a few years.

Now since I helped you get it working, may I have the machine as a present  ? *kidding*
