Title: S2000 - No Sound - Common issue? Post by: DonnieZ on July 28, 2012, 05:21:50 PM Good Afternoon,
Looking at buying an S2000 for my Mom for her birtday just to have for fun. I have a line on a decent condition S2000 at a decent price that works save for the fact that there is no sound. I've done some searching on the forum but didn't come across any topics with this issue. If this is a somewhat common issue or if most issues with sound can be fixed for a reasonable price ($100 or less) I'd go forward with picking up this game. Otherwise, I'll pass in favor of a fully working game. I don't know much more than that - the machine is about 80 miles away and I'd like to have at least an educated guess as to whether or not this is something that's fixed with reasonable effort and cost, otherwise I won't bother going up there to look at it. I'm fairly capable with electronics, and I can do component repair if it's not something that's SMT or smaller than I can reasonably work with my fingers with. I work in IT and people ask me these kind of questions all the time "Hey.. Why doesn't X work?" and I tell them without seeing it it's akin to calling the doctor and saying "I don't feel well" - without seeing you he can't do much, but I figured I'd take a stab at asking the forum. Thanks, - Don Title: Re: S2000 - No Sound - Common issue? Post by: BR549 Auto Sales on July 28, 2012, 05:41:29 PM If the machine is a good price for you, buy it for sure. The sound issue may be something as simple as turning it up in the set up menu. If it is another issue, it will be an inexpensive fix. Everyone on this forum is quite helpful and will be able to get your game running perfectly, they have helped me many many times.

Post by: BR549 Auto Sales on July 28, 2012, 05:57:20 PM For some reason, casinos disable the sound on their slot machines and some even remove the DSV sound card in the machines as well. For your machine, the DSV card will just give you better enhanced sounds, so if it is missing you can pick one up from a vendor it member of this forum for @30.00 or so. What is the title if the game you are looking to get?

Boy if you didn't find anything about sound problems with a S 2000 you didn't look hard enough. In no way am I saying a S 2000 is prone to sound problems, most of the ones we hear about are self inflected problems caused by the owner of the machine, I can't think of any sound problem on a S 2000 that would cost over $100. Good chance it won't cost anything, just some trouble shooting. Why don't you tell us where your located and what you think is a decent price, also the game theme of the machine your looking at. Most seem to pay way to much for their first machine, including me. Title: Re: S2000 - No Sound - Common issue? Post by: DonnieZ on July 28, 2012, 06:40:33 PM Wow.. I'm impressed by the fast responses!
The game is a 2 coin RWB Deluxe, currently fitted for dollar tokens. The seller is offering it to me for $400, which as best I can tell is a pretty decent price for an S2000. I'm not sure if it comes with a slug of tokens, I'll have to ask. Ideally the machine I'm looking for would be a 5 Times Pay or a 10 Times Pay fitted for nickels. However, this seems like a good price for a game I can drive around an hour and pick up. (I just have to get something bigger than my Jetta to move it!) I'm in the suburbs of Chicago BTW. I did a search on sound and found a few issues on crackly sound, humming, distortion, but nothing on just no sound at all. Thanks for the replies all! Title: Re: S2000 - No Sound - Common issue? Title: Re: S2000 - No Sound - Common issue? Post by: Buzz on July 28, 2012, 07:24:03 PM I would say $400 is a decent price if it has a Bill Validator ( paper money ) if it also has a printer that would be a plus.
We have a outstanding member in Peoria IL ( dansgames ) If I was in that part of the country I would go see him for a new machine. ( besides the fact I still owe him for a eprom ) If your Jetta is a hatch back you might be supprised what all you can get into it. I had a fellow show up in one of those little shoe box cars, he left here with ( 3 ) S 2000 in it. If all else fails you can unplug a few wires and 4 screws and the top box will come off. No big deal to change a machine from a dollar token to a nickle coin. Just a guess about 50 bucks. I would have to question your wisdom about a 5 X or 10 X pay machine. Much better game out there for the same price. Title: Re: S2000 - No Sound - Common issue? Post by: DonnieZ on July 28, 2012, 08:23:17 PM LOL.. The game is not for me, it's for my Mom. She loves the 5x / 10x Pay games. I don't know why, they seem to have a pretty low hit frequency compared to a game like RWB, Black Tie, or something of that nature. But it's what she likes, so it's for her. I doubt she would get upset if I showed up with this game though!!!
It does have a bill validator, however I'm uncertain as to what bills it will read and which ones it won't. It's not really a huge issue. I'm sure my Dad has a few of the old school 100's hoarded away in the safe that she can use to load up some credits on it. So far this is looking like a winner. $400 is about $100 less than I wanted to spend. I'd spend up to $500, but the game would have to already be set for nickels and be fully functional. Any idea on where I can get a parts list or a "how to" on co Title: Re: S2000 - No Sound - Common issue? Post by: Buzz on July 28, 2012, 09:08:19 PM If you have a question just ask away, guarantee you will not get flamed on this site. The Mods or Bunker wouldn't put up with it. Hell they even let me log on every other week.
