Title: S+ RNG
Post by: Neonkiss on February 12, 2009, 01:16:04 AM
It has been said that an IGT machine's RNG does not pick the number until after the spin button is pushed for each separate spin.
However I have noticed that my S+ machines have a pause after exactly every 100 spins.
One might interpret this as the time it take for the RNG to generate the next 100 future plays, completely against what the RNG is suppose to be doing.
If so what is this pause after 100 plays? It last about 2 seconds and then the machine will play again.

Information is being transferred to the eeprom on the motherboard, anyway thats what I was told by a tech in the casino

Confirmed. :89-  It uploads the bookkeeping data into non-volatile memory. The cmos on the MPU holds the interim data but can be lost if the battery dies or the chip is pulled. They only transferred every 100 spins because writing to the EEPROM is slow. :5-

Statfreak played with the "pause" phenomenon and there was an extensive thread on this subject in the old forum.
As early as last fall, I believe.
Basically what Jim said is correct. There can be no other comprehensive explanation as to why this happens...
I was able to hand/insert inject somewhere around 12 coins into the slot before the "pause" woke up.
All the coins of course fell through and into the tray.
For some unknown reason, the machine seems to pay out more shortly thereafter the "pause"- but that was never fully verified.
I mean, who has the time to sit through counting 100 handle pull for hours at a time and make notes of payouts and calculating whether or not it pays a higher percentage after the "pause"?
One thing for sure, the "pause" is really noticable when you're running a machine by using the "auto-play" switch.
The "pause" makes one look up at the machine to see whats going on...while you're thinking you've just struck THE MEGA HIT!

While we're talking about pauses, I'll have to post a piece of interesting information that another member pointed out to me recently. :79-

Here's a link:  (If you play Wms Big Bang Piggy Bankin' and don't want a spoiler, don't read this post.)

Thanks everyone for this information.
I do remember this on the old site but I could not remember the outcome.

Just as an added, the pause occurs every 100 plays on the PE+ and the GameKing too.

I have noticed the pause too.   Now you guys have me psyched to count and see if it happens every 100 spins  :7-

Does the pause go away on a 16Mhz board?

The 100 spin EEPROM write pause happens on the WMS Dotmation machines as well.  :79-

Just thought I'd throw that out to stir things up a bit. (but it's true) :72- :72-
This pause is completely separate from the spoiler link that I posted above.

jdkmunch, I've never used a 16MHz board, but I would suspect that it would be there, since the EEPROM still needs to be updated. The pause might be shorter though. :103-

<ADD> Having thought about it, the pause should be the same length because the limiting factor is the speed at which the EEPROM can be written, not the speed of the processor.

I just ordered a 16Mhz board with an SP1045.  I'll try them in the board and let you know if it pauses.

I am not positive but I'm pretty it pauses for the 16MHz board because I use both....but like I said, I'm not positive on that.

Where did you come up with SP1045 ??

It's supposed to come with the board.

Do you think it will work?  You seem to know alot about the S platform

Well 1045 is a special chip not many know what it is for, whoever you got it from may have stated the wrong chip number

ohh If I were a gambling man I would say that you would be correct.  I'll probably find out tomorrow!  I purchased from Darell - He has helped me out many times.

Darrel doesn't make a lot of mistakes....now, if I was a gamblin' man (which I am... :96-) you will soon have a very special chip!

Blueridge was correct!  The board came with SP1145.   Now what is the 1045 for?  Or if you told me you would have to kill me..  :58-

Munch,
The latest non type 2 games the Army had using the scrolling display used the SP 1045 Game chip.

SP1045 is a military chip.
