Title: Game Swap and Testing
Post by: Nashional on August 02, 2012, 02:22:58 PM
I've been trying to digest all of the information on here and I think I have a handle on this, but I just want to make sure.

If I remove the MPU tray and remove the EPROM behind the tray, then insert a new EPROM and put the MPU tray back in, this will cause the game to think it's in a new cabinet?

Then, I can play with different settings, configurations, etc. using a Key chip?

Afterwards, I can pull the tray, but the original EPROM back in and power it back up and it will be in the original state before I changed the EPROMS and the game/checksums should not complain at all?

wrong...   the new program will load new info to the ram on the mpu board. it then has to sync up with the memory on the mother board (called the E2 e squared) once the errors are cleared and options are set you can play the game. if you change chips again, the process starts over

I'm not changing any chips. Just the backplane EPROM as discussed started at reply #4 here: http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=6334.0

if you change the eeprom  (E square chip) on the mother board  (back plane) and the ram chips on the mpu you should not even have any errors to clear. all the data from the original game will be held. however if you just change the E2 the ram from the mpu board will have to sync up and will have error messages. those can most likely be cleared with the reset key and your game should be back to the original config.
