Title: 61 code locked in and won't go to 61-1
Post by: subsailor on August 07, 2012, 12:44:24 AM
Hey all!
I just got a s plus double blackjack 9" game at an auction.
I got it cheap cause it was showing an error code 12 on it. I got it home, and found the battery was not soldered down on one tab.. appeared to be a bad solder job.
I checked the battery voltage, and it was 3.7 volts, so I resoldered the tab, and cleared the error 12. Then the 61 error came up, and I pressed the test button, and it went to 61-1.
Closed the door, and turned the reset key. Heard a clink sound, and the error dissapeared for several seconds. Now a 61 error returned, and again I opened the door, and pressed the test button, aaaaaaannnndddd nuttin!!!
The code will not trip to 61-1, it just stays at 61

So now what?  I have ordered the reset chips, but I also read not to clear the game for just a 61 error.
Any suggestions anyone?  Any and all responses will be deeply appreciated. :131-
Thanks!!
Dave :37- :103-

By the way. The game has a SP731 chip, and a SS4710 chip. was set on 5 cents. :88-

My friend had the same problem.  Went to the 61-1 one time and then after that only the 61 code kept popping up.  We had to use the clear chip and then go through all the settings.  Might have to use the set chip to re-activate the bill acceptor.

Sounds pretty close to the dreaded "61 loop" issue that others have encountered after a battery change.  This is one of the rare times that you will want to use a clear chip, which should solve your issue.

If you're interested in more reading, you can use the search function at the top of the page to look for "61 loop", which will have more posts on the issue.

If you need to buy a clear chip, post in the classifieds section and someone will be able to provide one for you.  If the machine has a bill validator, you'll also need a SET chip to re-enable it after the clear.  It shouldn't cost more than $20 for the pair of clear and SET chips.

Thanks Guys! I have a number 15 clear chip coming so hopefully that will solve the problem.

You should be able to get by without a clear chip, all you need to do is to change to a different sp chip, that will take care of your problem,

do you have anymore s plus machines ?????? as long as the sp chip is not the same as you have, you can use it, just running a clear might not unlock the board, than you can go back to the old sp any it  should  come up and take the errror code away,

I wish, but this is my first slot. I'll have to clear and re-program I suppose.
I am going to check the motherboard tonight, and see if the cmos is socketed in. if it is, I'll ground it out and see if that works.

A SET15 chip is not a clear chip. A SET15 chip will allow you to re-enable a bill validator after a clear, but will not clear the EEPROM on the motherboard which is the likely suspect in your 61 loop issue.

What clear chip do you recommend for an SP731 chip?

The clear chip is pretty much universal. I think there are only 2 types, but I never had an issue with either. All the clear does is erase the CMOS (which you can do just by pulling the CMOS out of the socket for a second) and it also erases the EEPROM on the motherboard. If one had the EEPROM in a socket and had an EPROM burner, they could erase it that way too.

Okay Guys, I got the machine cleared, and used the 15 set chip to turn on the bv.
How do I go about setting the other programming? The limits for example. Is there a tutorial posted anywhere?
Also the validator takes and credits bills, but the coin comparator is not working, no green light, but I do have 24 volts at the comparator.
Any ideas????? :103-

Here is the PSR for the SP731 you said you have.

Is there a sample coin in the CC?

As noted above make sure there is a coin in the comparator of the same type you are using. Also the led won't be on if the door is open.

There is a small adjustment sensitivity adjustment screw. Turn it back and forth a few times, then turn it fully CCW and then just a little CW.

Is the coin dropping to the tray or the hopper?

Thanks guys!!!
The coins (nickles) are dropping into the tray, and I believe the cable is broken somewhere cause when I wiggle it, the rake solenoid will momentarily engage.
Otherwise the game appears to work well. It's taking 20's and ones, but not the new 5's it has ver. 3.60 on the WBA 11 chip.
I'm ok with that. At a nickle a credit you can play quite a while on 20 bucks!!!
