Hello all!  I just got my 16Mhz board and I'm shocked!

The board has no dip switches or volume control.  How is the volume changed?

It's a sound option using the test switch button , and reset key to get to the volume settings.

That's going to be great for me! I have to adjust the volume often  --- when my wife comes down and watches TV while I play,  I have to lower the volume.  Now i stuff a sock in the coin tray to muffle the sound. 

well,
One cool little mod I saw had a small potentiometer (volume knob) attached to the speaker wires and was just barely sticking out of a tiny slit on the left side of his cabinet. Inside, you'd see the the back of the knob with the wires running alongside with the button harness.
The knob was screwed nicely to the interior wall.
With his left hand, he reached over and adjusted the volume! From the outside while playing!
Was pretty cool and simple really.
Somebody's gonna come up with a mod using the remote control I made a while back to adjust the sound... :96-

It makes much sense though - that pot on the mpu sure makes me nervous.

It's nothing to be scared of -- it's just the super-secret knob that casino technicians use to change the payout percentage. LOL. :30- :30- :5-

The knob on one of my 10Mhz boards is so hard to move I almost need a screwdriver.  I labeled the tray so I don't mess with it.   The other 10Mhz board I have the volume moves nice and freely.

I'd probably leave that alone too. I'm not sure which product is safe to spray on the pot to try to clean it, maybe one of the techs will know. None of my six boards have that issue. Of course, these boards are still cheap enough that it might not be worth the bother.

Stat does owning more than one machine make you a slot tech. if it does I use a pocket knife to turn some of mine

Radio Shack used to sell a product called tuner cleaner.
For those of you under 40 - TVs used to have these 12 position dials on them called a tuner.
After a good number of years (7+) a good shot of tuner cleaner made the contacts like new again.
It often improved the reception as sometimes you had to jiggle the knob a bit to improve the contact.

You could use this stuff for any pot or slide switch with equally good effect.

Our Canadian RadioShacks are now called The Source by circuit city and you can't even get a can of compressed air anymore.....

I know what you are talking about. I worked in Radio Shack from the age of 15 to 23 and I remember selling the stuff. I miss the store the way it was. Now most stuff must be purchased online.  I like to walk in the store look around and physically hold the stuff.

It used to be a store for guys to browse in, but that was a long time ago. To be fair to RS, half the time I'd go in there with a ham friend and browse for half an hour and then spend a whopping $0.59 on a pack of resistors or some such thing. We weren't exactly paying their light bills.

  Howdy folks!!  I picked up a few S-Plus machines today.  Got one working fairly good already.  My problem is it has the 16Mhz board in it.  I have looked every where for the instructions on how to change the volume, music on/off, rreel speed and can not find any info on how to adjust this items.  The owners manual does not explain how to adjust stuff on the 16Mhz board.  Only the 10Mhz board with the dip switches and blue thumb wheel.  Could someone point me in the right direction??????  Thanks.

SELF TEST MODE
The numbers enclosed in < > represent the self test page number, [ ] represent the option number, and { } represent the setting.  During a tilt condition or while credits are accumulated, only the bill acceptor tilt mode and out of service mode can be modified.  The self test mode consists of three groups.  General instructions for setting options within groups are provided below.  Specific instructions are provided where applicable.


Group 2 -- Page Zero Options
To change the option setting, press the Spin Reels button.  To move to the next page zero option, turn the jackpot reset key.  To move to Group 3 at any time within the zero pages, press the self test button.
Reel-Spin Sound <0> [2]   Options are reel-spin tones and reel-stop sounds {0} or reel-spin tones only {1}.
Volume Control <0> [3]   Sets the volume for all sounds and music produced by the sound generator (for the reel game).  Options range from loudest volume level {1} to lowest volume level {9}.
Credit Mode <0> [5]   Options are standard credit or noncredit {0}, player-initiated credit {1}, and player-initiated noncredit {2}.  The player-initiated credit option defaults to the noncredit mode when the credit meter remains at zero for more than 30 seconds, or when any accumulated credits are cashed out.  The player-initiated noncredit option defaults to the credit mode if the game is idle for 30 seconds, and it remains in the credit mode when credits are cashed out.

Thanks for the info!!!  I am fairly new at the S-Plus machines.  And this is the first 16Mhz game.  I read it over a few times and think I can figure it out (I hope).  Is there a setting to control the reel spin speed.  This Red White and Blue spins and stops real fast compared to my 4th of July 10Mhz game.  Thanks again

I think when IGT designed the later 16MHz boards, they wanted them to spin faster....
you can't really do anything about that.
It's a "take-the-cash-faster-from-the-players-pocket-scheme"

If you are unhappy with the 16mhz board, you can just replace it with a 10mhz board.  They are inexpensive enough, and you NEED SPARE PARTS anyway.  You might as well get them while the gettin' is good.  As with all things "collectible" supplies eventually dry up. Get them coin hoppers and all coin related spare parts while you can still get them at reasonable prices.

Is there a 16mhz chip that is equivalent to 10mhz SP1137 ?

That's an excellent question...the SP1137 IS designed to be used in an 10MHz S+ board.
soooo,....have you tried it in a 16MHz?
The worse that could happen is the reels will act funny or it won't boot up....
But there should be NO damage to the chip because the voltage inputs
to the legs (IC pins) are the same for 10 and 16MHz  SP chip sockets.

I try to go the manufacturers recommendations because that's what the SP1137 is designed for...
but not always...LOL

The 10mhz chips wont work in the 16mhz board.
Generally speakng they are burned onto too slow an Eprom however even if you did use a faster eprom there are other checks done by the 16mhz board to ensure compatibility.
The most obvious is that chips for the 16mhz board have PSR features like volume control while the 10mhz ones rely on the adjustment pot.

The real question is what features in he 1137 is he looking for in the 16mhz variety.

The coolest thing about the SP1137 chip is that you can drop
all the coins you want down the slot and it all goes to the credits display! :89-

Of course, this is also known in the slot world as "Montana Credits"... :71-

I'm looking for the Montana credits feature with a 16mhz board.

I tried for over a hour to turn up the volume and turn on the music on my machine today.  I sure feel dumb, could not figure it out.  I am not sure which window should show what number.  Is there a link for dummys on how to do this????  Its a 3 line Red White & Blue  16Mhz.

                                 

There are 2 chips that control your machine.
The Game Chip - these are all the options you mentioned. These are specific to each game. The document that covers all of these options is called a PSR (Program Summary Report)
The Reel Chip - This is what controls the theme. The game percentage is inside this, reel trip order etc. The document that covers this is called a PAR (Paytable and Reel)

Start with "Ricks Faqs" in the top left hand corner of the home page. There are instructions there to identify your GAME CHIP and REEL CHIP.

Post what these are and some kind sole might just email you the PSR from their personal collection. Make sure your NLG profile is up to date with your email address.

PSRs are not the easiest things to read so R273 (Ron) has created a simplified guide that you can find in the Upload section (again from our main page). Ideally it is best if you have the PSR next to it as you go through it.
