Deals hit the buffet line: Eat all day for $25
By Liz Benston · February 13, 2009 · 6:54 PM
The economic slump has Las Vegas casinos blitzing the Internet with offers that include free rooms, half-price show tickets and airplane vouchers for future trips.

The Excalibur is filling a new niche, so to speak, for the gluttonous crowd.

The budget property is offering unlimited, all-day access to its buffet for $25. One can only imagine how much damage can be done to a roast or pasta platter in 24 hours.

Like many surprising hotel bargains these days, it's something of a social experiment. Or maybe a Pavlovian one.

The offer is available to customers who offer an e-mail address when they sign up for a MGM Mirage player card.

It's available to anyone -- perhaps you have to have a player's card, but anyone can get in on the stuff-yoursef-a-thon:

I'd be very, very frightened if she was there.

She wouldn't look like that for long if she took them up on their offer! LOL :72- :72-

My favorite buffet in Vegas is without a doubt the Bellagio.. I LOVE those crabs legs.

Second would be Palace Station.

Thanks for the info.  My wife and I like buffets but I feel like I don't eat enough to get my money's worth, there used to be a time when I could eat lots.  I'm going to tell the wife about this, I've been trying to talk her into a July 4th trip, so that I can visit Joey's, however she isn't exactly jumping at the chance, too hot for her perhaps.

Thanks,
Wayne

I have been rather disappointed in the Buffets as of late.

I ate at the Mirage: Carvers with Stat and the Captain last July. Perhaps it was the hour but while there was plenty of food I found that it lacked any kind of spice or flavor. Lots of good stuff like roast beast, and king crab but it all tasted like it came out the same vat.

I ate at Harrahs:  When I was there in Sept, same story. I like shrimp and just won't eat it when they serve it cold and unpeeled. Its not that I really mind peeling it but the de-veining at the dinner table is not my cup of tea. Eweee..... I think the Buffet was 36/head... for similar money you can get a high end steak at a place like Gallaghers at NyNy. In fact I managed to hit that with Op-Bell. I just need to stay away from the $150 bottles of wine....

I ate at the Beligio: At  new years when I took my family there. This was one of the better buffets but in my opinion still lacked taste and the waiting in line for 90 min is for the birds. That trip we ate at Joes Crab Co. over in the forum shops. We made reservations for 7.00pm and just walked in and had a fab meal for about what we had spent the day before. Again I admit to a wine weakness and blew the budget here again. Had I gone to a buffet it would have been 8.15 by the time we were seated and then you just want something in your stomach.

The one that has been consistantly good but I didn't hit in 08 was the Rio Seafood Buffet. Its one of the more expensive ones but I really do like the Lagantinos (sp ?) that they pass off as mini lobsters. They also have decent sushi, and dishes like Seafood Newburg that has some taste too it. I would still pile on a bunch of spanish paprika and some safron sprigs but then again I am at a buffet. They at least have a large bottle of Tabasco at each table so you can enjoy your Oysters properly.

I stayed at the Ex-calibur when I was down in 06, and we took a look at the buffet. It was full of goodies like Mac and Cheeze, meatloaf and Pizza. Great if you are feeding the 12year old crowd but not what I would consider fine dining.

I wouldnt go into Excalibur if you paid me too.  It reminds me too much of a bad 80s version of Circus Circus.

Now for $25 bucks....

Sunset Station: (and they have $3.00 craps!!) mid-week mornings

Skillet breakfast at the Cafe (3 eggs, hashbrowns, your choice of meat (mine is the large ham steak), and you still get to pick from grits, biscutts and gravy, or mini pancakes).  $8.00

Gaudijaras (Mexican place next to the Cafe)
Shrimp Gaudijaras (King prawn Shrimp wrapped in Bacon and motaza cheese, deep fried and served with a honey mustard vinagrette).
Fajitas (Steak) usually on sale for $7.99
35 salsa bar with awesome warm bean dip.

Still leaves me $5.00 or so bucks for tips. or a snack.  Like Gelato at Bellagio!!!

I guess if they're serving pizza, meatloaf and Mac&Cheese(probably not K.D.), I wouldn't like it either.  We have better Buffets near me, you can get all you can eat steak at Tuckers, this makes me think of the steak buffet in Atlantic City at Bally's Wild Wild West, good variety there too.  While on the subject, I had an opportunity to eat at a place called "The Branded Steer" in Milwaukee one time (went to tour the Harley Davidson factory), everything that was ordered to our table of 9, was excellent, including My filet mignon and creme brulee', prices were great also .  ok, enough rambling.

Thanks,
Wayne

I have to agree with Jay about the Mirage buffet last year. I was the one who suggested going there, but the overall quality had definitely slipped since my previous visit, although the prime rib was still pretty good, and the gelato-style ice cream/sherbet was worth seconds.

I haven't eaten at the Wynn or Venetian, but I mean to my next trip out. The Venetian doesn't have a buffet that I know of, but they do have Wolfgang Puck at the Postrio restaurant, and Emeril Lagasse at the Delmonico Steakhouse. Wynn has a buffet, but is probably worth investigating for its fine dining rather than the buffet. Anyone checking out the better restaurants in these two casinos better bring their credit card. :5- (Actually, not all of them are that bad.)

I agree with Jay and doublediamonddlx about Excaliber. Yuch!

:72- :72- :72- :72- BTDT.  :97- :97- :97-

I remember the ONE -- and only one -- time that I made the mistake of going to the Circus Circus buffet in Reno in the 80s. Nothing but dried up fried chicken, mac & cheese made with plastic cheese, overcooked french fries, vegetables from cans, Salisbury steak fresh off the ice-hockey field... I think I found three things that were edible. I had one plate and left. :40- :40-

I had a wonderful meal at Le Cirque at the Bellagio, but I've heard that there are even better French restaurants in LV. I had the tasting menu (about $120) and with two glasses of wine and tip it came to just under $200 (for one). Their menu changes and the current tasting menu is only $98. Many, if not most, of the dishes that I had are no longer on the menu. Jay, you need to STAY AWAY from this place!! They have single bottles of wine in this restaurant costing over $100,000. That's over $20,000 a glass after decanting. You'll need a second mortgage, not a credit card.  :30- :30- :25- :97- :97-

Hey Wayne,

If you want a good steak close to home check out Zorros. Its in Mississauga quite close to the airport.

My wife ordered the Zorro cut of the prime rib - I thought they had brought half the cow.

Thanks Jay,  I've been there and agree it is good.  I live just up the road (12 minutes) from it.  I usually order steak, but everyone tells me the prime rib is awesome.  It's been a while since I've been there, I'll have to take the wife soon.

Thanks,
Wayne
