Bills are accepted but instead of credits (yes cashout is lit) they are immediately paid out of the hopper.

Tests done on our tester, not in a machine.

What setup procedure am I missing to turn the bills into credits instead of coins?

with the sp you are using  dip switch #4  comes into play.    on=automatically  enables all bills paid from the hopper.   off=  option set in self test mode,  in the menu that begins with 5_0or 1 or 2, advance to #8   set what option you want.

The SP872 PSR is attached to the bottom of this post (click here) (http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=1671.msg11994#msg11994).  If you don't already have that, you'll need it to navigate through the options.

Make sure you have the S+ options set to the following > 2-1, 5-2 & 8-1. Press the test button several times untill 2-0 or 2-1 appears in the winner paid window. Adavance to the next option(s) using the reset key. Change values as needed with the spin reels button. Machine has to be idle with zero errors and zero credits to make any changes.

Note: changes have to be made with no credits on the machine.

Figured it out with the help of a local old phart.

Turn the machine off, set DIP switch #4 to off.

Turn the machine on. Use the test button to get to 5xx2.

Turn the reset key until you see 8xx(?) and tap the spin button until it reads 8xx1.

Go back to game mode and the credits now work properly.

What happened to the "email me if there is a reply" checkbox on this forum?

You can enable it in your profile under notifications and email. There is also a button at the top and bottom of the thread.
