Title: Home alarm system help , XL4600Sm
Post by: U.S.AutoService on August 28, 2012, 08:42:40 PM
Need some help with this alarm system.  This was removed 3 years ago from my shop .  I now have it at my home, with a new battery .  I need to know how to remove the PHONE from the system, it is keeping the system from arming.  I have to bypass it each time I set the alarm.  I do not have a land line at home anymore.
Also the user code I use to use is gone, I found the defaught code and can not change it, help is also needed here too.

thanks

Dan

That's only the remote keypad.
Not the alarm system. Check and see what alarm panel is installed.
In the meantime here is a manual since you mostlikely have a FBI II alarm with that remote keypad.

the inside of the control box
also it had a blown fuse, I didn't have a way to fix it yet, so I jumped across the fuse. (bad idea, temp fix till I get tools)

I have been an alarm technician for 17 years now so this is what you need to do: If you have the programming manual, go to the keypad and access the panel programming mode. From there just go to the field where the 1-800 receiver telephone number is and delete the #, then you should be good to go. If not, I can send you another control pael and keypad alreadt programmed for you if for some reason you cannot access programming. PM me if you have any questions and I can give you my number and I can help you out.

Phone lines not connected. I guess you already know that.
Also all the resistors should be at the end of the line, unless that zone is not used.
When added at the panel it's called a T-tap and the integrity of the wiring is not monitored.
Techs do this when they can't locate the problem with the wiring to get rid of the trouble on the zone.

found a installation book but can't find the asterisk key , must be one of the 6 blank buttons.

the asterisk should be the bottom left button on the keypad.

Found it, stupid me . working on 2 1/2 hours of sleep.  I had just been burglarized yesterday and with the damage and the police and all the other 10,000 things I have going on right now.......   Anyways, I tried

command * 4600           and no slow pulse ready light (4600 default installer code) I just read that the installer code is sometimes changed by the company that originally did the install. Guardian Alarm. Is there a way to reset the installer code ? Should I guess a while ? Maybe the address of the building ?
Ideally I would like to set the system to only sound the alarm for 6 minutes and then re-arm itself , I had it disconnected because it would go off and run for hours. Also I have a cat, will it pick him up ?

One thing I remember the installer did was to hold down 2 keys simultaneously and press some buttons (maybe not)

picture is what I found left of my  gun safe

Sorry to hear about your break in, as far as the installer code goes each company uses their own 4 digits if the panel has been locked out, so you are not going to be able to access programming. PM me and I will send you another control panel and keypad that won't be locked out so that you can access programming yourself and I will help you program it over the phone to set it up for your home.

No substitute for a high quality gun safe... any safe with a single point lock engagement will at some point be trivial for a determined thief.  :25-

4 should be considered minimum, and the heavier the safe the better. I prefer Liberty myself (there's an actual Liberty Safe store not too far from my house, so purchase and service is easy...), but the new one you posted above isn't a slouch by any means.  :89-

Looks like your new one is a 32+6, if I'm not mistaken, thieves will find it a tad bit harder to throw that 493 pounder around than they did your last one!  :3-

Well I have a new alarm system to go along with the gun safe.  I lock the dead bolts and put bars in the doors to keep them from sliding open. I unscrew all the light bulbs when I leave to make em walk in the dark.
Funny thing is, they took all the good stuff, why would they come back ?

:3-    Special thanks for the alarm installation.... :244-
