Title: Two Questions for the Techies that have had me wondering
Post by: coorslight115 on August 29, 2012, 01:44:55 AM
When changing a s2000 from 960 board to enhanced MPU and Mother board, there were 3 netplex plugs labeled "Reels 1-5" "Reels 6-10" "Reels "11-15"? What S2000 based machine has 15 reels ???

Also on the new MPU it requires a DSPL0002 chip on the piggy back memory board ...What is it for and are there different ones? as it is a #2 what was #1 IE:DSLP0001?

was not on the 960 board, so was wondering what it's function was..

If this has been addressed in other posts...sorry can't search from smart phone and computer is down...bored!

I have not seen any themes that use more than 5 reels, FYI reels are not Netplex devices
I know there is a extra chip on the Legacy adapter I cant remember what it is called but it supposedly has to do with accessing the DSV sound simm

I may be wrong with the net plex term, but the mother board I took out had (1) connector that was labeled "reels", The new board had (3) sockets labeled "reels 1-5", "reels 6-10" and "reels 7-15". I used the "1-5 and all worked fine. I have the 2 other empty sockets and wondered what game used them....if any?

I do not think IGT has come out with any games for more than 5 physical reels I noticed the same when I went to the enhanced board and also figured to use the connector for 1 to 5 as well.
The Extra Chip I was referring to is the DSPL0002 Which could stand for Digital Sound Processor Logic 0002 Thinking it is a 27C080 same as the Game chips

Coors, those extra reel sockets were for future plans that didn't pan out and the DSPL002 chip must be on the legacy adapter board for sound simm access as Foster was guessing in the previous post. From what I've been able to gather there never was a DSPL001 chip. Be careful using that enhanced MPU,  the green battery is critical for operation on those

What I would like to find is the schematic to the 1270 board so I can figure out to trick the board into thinking that battery is there, maybe a resistor in place of the battery might do the trick
The resistor allowing a trickle current to flow between the negative and positive.
