Title: Free Play????
Post by: cjbandkjb on September 02, 2012, 12:55:22 AM
I have recently received a Ballys' S6000 Triple Money machine. The man i received it from did not tell me of all the problems with the machine, but did say it worked and that it could be either free play or pay to play. i dont know much about these machines but after lots of tests and trials, me and my son got it to the point that all we need is a new coin comparator. I am waiting for this comparator to arrive in the mail, and i was wondering how i would go about switching the machine from pay to play to free play. i will provide pictures if you tell me what to show, but you will need to be somewhat specific.
PLEASE HELP!

Touchy subject as there are many free play items out there. Some made by Bally and a lot made by users..Not knowing what you have, most will not want to touch this subject..All the pictures you can take of the item that look add on to you, and all around the coin mech and buttons may show us something. Just a place to start but no promisises :60- :60-

There's a "coin" switch on the front on the CPU board.  Make sure it is in the up position.

are you talking about the buttons on the front of the big board that say Test, coin mech, Pseudo coin, and reset?

Yes,  the coin switch needs to be in the up position for  accepting coins.

There might be a little white button on your coin optic board below your comparitor that will give you handle release if you push it once.
Of course, if it's there, and if it works, you will have to push it once for every coin in.  Not quite a free play, but I don't know any other way.
Is there any free play function in diagnostics or test??? I don't recall.
Usually, if you replace that big cap on the comparitor, that will fix it.  You can probably get one from Radio shack, just make sure it's polarized and you put it in the right way.

the guy that had given me the machine said there was a way to switch it to function as a free play machine, i see the button yoou are talking about and i have used it to test that the machine works after fixing all the other problems, and as for replacing the big cap...i learned that in my research but in order to do that id have to get a soldering gun/iron, so i opted to just buy a new comparitor, thank you though!
and how would i go through the diagnostic/test stuff youre talking about?

Should be a test button somewhere on the MPU board.  Push it once, you go into test 1, twice for test 2, etc.  You should see the display on the front of machine change as you push the button.
Somewhere on NLG there should be a file on this I suspect.
It used to be test 1 is inputs,
Test 2 outputs
Test 3 hopper
etc. etc., but I haven't worked on one of these for a long time.
Contact the seller and ask him how to put in free play mode.  Or maybe someone here has a chart of the tests?
Sometimes the buttons on the door will allow you to toggle between tests, too, but I don't remember the model for that.  Look to see which ones light up when you go into test and then play around with it while you watch your displays.
Is test 8 free play anyone?

S'ok, someone with one of these should answer you eventually.
So, does it work if you put a bill in the bill validator with the door closed?

Other than put a $20 in and take it back out, I don't know.
Maybe there's some way to wire your bet button onto the pseudo coin switch?

If it's not equipped with some type of aftermarket FREE PLAY device like this one,
http://rudysdeals.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=88&product_id=831 (http://rudysdeals.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=88&product_id=831)
Then the seller just probably told you that story. Most likely the reason he no longer returns your emails.

Just play with coins or bills or install the aftermarket products available. The machine originally does not come with a FREE PLAY device or switch installed.

thank you, where in the machine would that device be located?

After looking at your pictures, I don't think your machine has one installed.
