Title: Reel strip needed
Post by: OldReno on September 09, 2012, 03:11:47 AM
Reel strip needed.
I've got a nice modified 742A that has been converted into a single line, 5 coin JPO machine. (Complements of my buddy Darrell.)
I'd really like to sell it (I need hearing aids seriously to be sociable again -- 90% hearing loss from working in casinos), but it's so damned tight that probably no-one wants to play it. Or buy it.
The payback is 79%, and the hit frequency is only 4%, so it's almost one of the tightest machines I've seen.  The very tightest was 'Old Red' at the Mapes, which had a 60% payout.  But it made a ton of money.  We overlayed one of the bars with a blank reel strip, and folks thought it was broken, so they played the heck out of it.  Greed....
Anyway, I'm looking for a black standard sized reel strip which has bars, 5bars, and 7's on it.  If I can find this, then I will convert the machine into a higher payout device.
I could even make it so it pays out over 100%, which would make a very nice home machine, and one that folks might like to play.
If anyone can turn me on to a reel strip, I will do a post on how I converted it, step by step, with pics, and put that up on NLG.
Might be a fun project, and your advice will certainly be solicited on how to make this a higher frequency pay, better percentage, and in designing the strips.
If anyone has a black strip with cherries, that might be fun, too, because you can really dick around with percentages with a cherry or two. And it's pretty easy to rewire the hopper, because the wires for those pays were usually built in and taped away.  Note,  we do have to re-work they reel boards, too, to do this....
Actually, the fastest way I remember of tightening a machine, was to remove a cherry and add a 7.  Increases the house's hold tremendously.
I haven't changed out a pay structure for a long time, but still remember how to do it.
Will post what the current reel strips are, and the paytable if anyone is interested in helping design a 'busy' slot machine for home play.
Thanks
OldReno.

Hey OldReno,   Have you looked at Barry Foxs EBay store? The last time I took time to look see what he had, I thought I saw some Black reproduction strips for the 742. I was suprises to see how many different strip sets he had.

Cool to know, and thanks!  I've been bugging him mercilessly over the last few weeks, and did not want to further antagonize him.
Kidding....

On second thought, I'm going to leave the reel strips original, and instead wire in a couple of mystery pays.
I've got a couple in mind, and want to make it select-able by the owner.  With optional mystery pays, one should be able to select payback percentages from 78.5% to 98.5% or 108.5% with a simple turn of the JP reset key.
Will do a post on how to do this after a little more pondering.  Should be do-able.
