Title: Customized/Restored IGT Ten Times Pay
Post by: JRR4 on February 18, 2009, 12:13:04 AM
I just finished restoring my 10 Times Pay Slot machine.  New glass, new reels, new t-molding, new reel baskets, new laminate, restored candle, painted handle, polished door.  Everything visible from the outside is new or spiffed up.  Even a new custom game.  Before pics followed by after.  Enjoy.

If anyone wants some of the black/gold marbled material I used to cover the sides and tray of the machine I had to purchase a 60 foot X 1.5 foot roll of it and only used about 8 feet.  It's super easy to use and gave my machine a completely new look.  PM me if interested.  JR

K+ for the offer.... I am sure some one will take you up on that. Nice job btw.

Do you have any in-progress pictures. I am interested in the technique you used to strip off the old laminate from the sides and how you managed on some of the trouble areas such as the handle an reset key.

Did you remove the whole rachet assembly or just the handle (I see that you painted it).

What kind of adhesive did you use ? Did you cut the laminate to aproximate size then route around the outside or did you template it.

Sorry but I didn't take any pics in-process.  Also, I just put the material on top of the laminate.  It's just a thin contact paper type material so I had to have something to stick it to.  I removed the handle but left the lock and rachet assembly attached to the machine as I was afraid of not being able to get everything back together.  The adhesive comes on the paper.

The reason I was asking is that one of my buddies machines is a Katrina Special... His old laminate was 1/2 peeling up the side.

He started to peel it off but then he has some laminate that is glued on well. He was planning to use a chisel. I talked him out of that and suggested he use a heat gun and see if he can lift it that way.
The other thought was a chemical peeler.... in either case he plans to do this in the garage in spring. I will have to make sure I am out of town as I suspect I will be roped into helping him move the unit upstairs and out.
I think from your description he will need to use real laminate.

Jay,just tell him to buy a can of carb cleaner or get the one from the garage  :72-  and a little pressure from a screwdriver and spray away at the glue, you can get it off in one piece.  :81- open some windows or do it in the garage where you got the can otherwise the cats might be doing some funny tricks  :96-.

If you don't mind, did you order off the web, can you provide the vendor?  I would like to try that.

thanks

Railroad94 is dead on, used carb cleaner and a scraper with metal blade (Thanks KenoKarz) and the laminate came right off my 2 Gamemakers. You might have to work at some of the glue residue, but then you can either resurface or a hammer or matte texture paint works great! :89-
