Title: Noob question follows about S+ stuff Post by: suncatalyst on September 18, 2012, 08:41:52 PM ive been lurking around here learning and since i live Close to Reno where these machines are made, ive
been watching craigslist... picked up a IGT S+ Red/White/Blue machine thats Totally Mint for Dirt cheap. manufactured 4/1999 model # 9640020R whats odd theres parts in the door that are dated in 2001... game prom is a SP1206 dated 2/09/01 reel prom is a SS4090 dated 7/15/92 mine has the square top box and no player card slot and NO Bill validator. im wanting to add a bill validator to it.. what all do i NEED? ive read theres different bill validators and would like to make sure i get one that can read NEWER bills. also got 3 sets of keys to the machine.. is there a manual somewhere that tells me if somebody wins a jackpot bigger than the hopper payout how to clear it? and what all the key is capable of doing? sorry for the noob questions but i got to learn sometime. :279- Thanks in advance Title: Re: Noob question follows about S+ stuff Post by: CVslots on September 18, 2012, 09:11:42 PM :136- Congrats on your new machine!!! Sounds like you did good! :211-
On the dates, don't stress too much on the dates, as S+ machines were produced for quite some time (someone on here knows exactly how long they were produced). I believe they started in 1986 and ran through the 90s. With yours being a 1999, I am surprised to hear it does not have a bill validator. :103- To add a bill validator may be quite a little project. Show us some pics and we'll get you going on it. To clear a jackpot, use the little brass key that was (hopefully) given to you as one of the 3 keys. Title: Re: Noob question follows about S+ stuff Post by: suncatalyst on September 18, 2012, 10:44:21 PM i have keys that fit all the locks on the machine (3 keys and i have 3 sets of them)
machine was a Raffle to IGT employees is what i was told... attached are plenty of pictures across multiple posts. Title: Re: Noob question follows about S+ stuff Post by: suncatalyst on September 18, 2012, 10:45:53 PM more pictures

Title: Re: Noob question follows about S+ stuff Post by: CVslots on September 19, 2012, 01:38:39 PM Nice machine! Gotta love the IGT employee raffles! We once scored an Odyssey from an IGT employee who won it in a raffle!
Anyway, first of all, I am not one of the S+ gurus here, but I do know enough to get you started (or maybe just get you in trouble). On the S+, I think you will be limited on the bill validators, to a DBV-145 or DBV-200. Many folks will tell you that the DBV-145 is not a good investment, so you may want to go with the 200. As far as accepting the new bills, IGT stopped supporting the S+, and therefore, the updates for the DBV-145 and DBV-200s stopped as well. Check with Barry Fox/Foxsslots on the Home page and he has the most recent update available, as most likely, the bill validator units as well. With this being your first machine, don't try and save $10 and buy it elsewhere, or buying one that may not work, etc. You will be crazy frustrated and end up spending more in the long run. You can shop for deals later when you are armed with more knowledge. (Trust me on this one.) Now, on the front of the door on your machine, on the wide chrome piece along the front, it APPEARS there is a chrome plug/cap covering the hole where the bill validator goes (on right side, maybe 3"x5"?). Please confirm that it is there, as it is hard to tell with the reflection in the picture. You MUST have this or you CANNOT add a bill validator, unless it's an external unit (that hangs on the side of the machine). On the keys, you have 2 barrel keys and 1 little brass key in each set right? You have to have the little brass key! It's a reset key and it goes in the lock on the side above the handle. Good luck and report back! :88- Roslyn Title: Re: Noob question follows about S+ stuff Post by: suncatalyst on September 19, 2012, 04:00:09 PM Hi Roslyn,
yes theres a plug/cap on the front door. right in front of the cash can box Keys... each set theres a Brass key that fits the lock above the handle , other 2 keys fit the locks on the right side of the front door. I'm guessing your probably looking at around $150-200 by the time your done then, not sure really, dont quote me on that one, I may be wrong. Depends on all the little stuff you'll need like harnesses, bezel, new decal for the reel glass, clear/set chips, etc. Like I said, Barry will know all that. Have fun! :88- Roslyn Title: Re: Noob question follows about S+ stuff Post by: poppo on September 19, 2012, 06:46:59 PM Looks like you are missing the transport tray too. So you need the tray, transport, head, duckbill, cash can, BV power supply, and door bezel. and of course a set chip.
Title: Re: Noob question follows about S+ stuff Post by: suncatalyst on September 20, 2012, 05:04:11 AM poppo,
thanks for that info plus ill need the wire harness.. what set chip do i need to pick up? which bill validator is gonna work with the S+ and allow me to take recent bills? i see that the WBA 12/13 work with the S+ as long as the ido = 23/24 suggestions? i realize that i probably wont be able to take new new bills due to IGT trying to force people to buy new machines. thanks for everybodys help Title: Re: Noob question follows about S+ stuff Post by: leapyearguy on September 20, 2012, 06:06:11 AM check the pictures, it looks like your harnesses are there already
Title: Re: Noob question follows about S+ stuff Post by: suncatalyst on September 20, 2012, 06:38:17 AM leapyearguy,
yep , i had noticed those there as well as the one zip tied under the shelf the reels are on that comes from the door. so im suspecting theres another harness that plugs into the 2 on the back wall by the MPU board and plugs into the bill validator? so the shopping list so far seems to be: power supply tray cash can transport head duckbill door bezel Bill Validator Lense and Illuminating Board harness to bill validator set chip anything else i need for this project? Title: Re: Noob question follows about S+ stuff Post by: poppo on September 20, 2012, 08:25:36 AM Can't tell from your picture, but there is also a wiring harness that goes from the cash can optics and runs along the trasport tray. It looks like you may need that too.
My understanding is you can use a WBA, but it may require some "metal work" to fit it. Title: Re: Noob question follows about S+ stuff Post by: blueridgeslots on September 20, 2012, 11:50:00 AM No metal work needed, you have a WBA originally equipped cabinet and the housing is there for a WBA, the beak will fit with no modifications, you just need to make sure you get a door bezel for a S+ WBA as they are 3/8" wider than a more common DBV set up. You can tell by the opening in the door (with blanking plate removed) the correct bezel. We have the correct BV for that machine to accept the New $5 bill. the power supply will plug into the larger square plug in back wall and the frame and harness will just slip into your housing and hook up to power supply and bezel signal wire. Very simple install. We have some very nice units for this application in stock

P.S. I seen your WTB post. Jim @ Blueridge just commented below that he has some nice units in stock. Problem solved! :3- :3- Roslyn Title: Re: Noob question follows about S+ stuff Post by: poppo on September 20, 2012, 06:02:40 PM No metal work needed, you have a WBA originally equipped cabinet and the housing is there for a WBA, .... How can one tell if it's "WBA equipped"? How can one tell if it's "WBA equipped"? The housing is a WBA housing (or Mars. same housing), not DBV. but most all 1997 and newer cabinets were WBA equipped. even though the US market only had S+ Barcrest offered by IGT, Canada still had S+ available until 1999 I can tell by looking at the housing. specifically the bottom of it |
