However, now I am gettinbattery low system error. My cheat sheet says "non volatile memory battery on logic board has failed". What the hay does that mean? I think I am out of my league.

Although CDS machines are not the most popular platform/manufacturer on the forum, there are a quite a few people on here that have owned or worked on them. Hopefully someone will chime in and help you out.
I will ask my husband tonight when he gets home. He just did a service call on a CDS for what I believe was a dead battery. Let me see if he remembers what error message it was giving.
