Title: S2000 Hopper Coin Out Sensor Hack & Schematic
Post by: atom12 on October 13, 2012, 12:53:34 AM
Hi,

My son and I built a device to sort cents by using a IGT S-2000 hopper rigged to a coin comparator.  I need to interface a microcontroller to the 6 wire HOA6449-1 optic sensor to count coins as they exit the hopper.

I saw a thread here http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=15092.0 (http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=15092.0) that talked about doing this but the schematics didn't exactly line up and nobody ever got it to interface.

Does anybody have a wiring diagram for this on the other side?  Or know how to turn this into circuit with some +5/0v logic?

I tried putting at 10k resistor between vcc and the collector.  Then put ground to the cathode.  The microcontroller sense was put to where the 10k resistor and the collector meet.  I'm assuming power to vcc makes the sensor emit light, and that when it sees light the collector gets pulled to ground, otherwise it's open.  But who knows... any schematics?

All I can gather from the attached schematic is that the sensor pinout is:
  • 1-vcc
  • 2-collector 1
  • 3-cathode 1
  • 4-collector 2
  • 5-cathode 2
  • 6-grnd

Wow...quite the project you have going there!  :3- :3- :3-

Wish I could help, but maybe try and contact some of the authors/posters on the post you spoke about? Just send a Private Message and maybe someone can help! (Private Message button is located under the poster's avatar, just in case you didn't see it.)

Thanks... what we want to do is to make an auto jam detection feature.  It seems like in a box of pennies, the hopper can hold 3, there is usually a gunky cent that will jam up the device.  So I need to sit there ready to pull the plug because when anything below the hopper jams, it makes a huge mess real fast!
