Title: Another "Displays Netplex Link is down" Post by: Red7 on October 18, 2012, 07:31:28 PM Hey there,
Well I tried everything.. I have read just about every post regarding this.. But I just have to see if anyone else out there has the same issue and actually found a solution. If i - Unplug machine for 1 hour, then plug back in, I get "Displays Netplex link is down" it flashes on and off for ever.. After 10 minutes, If i unplug machine and wait 5 seconds and plug back in.. It boot's up just fine.. It is the MPU board.. and not power supply for i tried it in a different machine and it did the same in that one.. It is an enhanced board, So i removed the board and DE-soldered the "green" battery and tested the voltage.. after about 10 minutes it was stable at 2.8 Volts.. I know its a 3.6 Volt battery but I also read on several posts that this battery isn't that crucial, but the button cell battery is the important one. I tried to buy a new "green" battery today but the battery shop was out of stock. So i soldered it back in and replaced the other button cell battery just for kicks.. Did a full clear, and set up machine. Well it didn't change a thing. I had removed all chips and reseated them tight, did I once over with a magnify glass to see if there was any cracks and breaks in circuit board.. did not find anything.. So is this "Green" battery the culprit? Machine is a Triple Diamond.. So I plopped another exact machine beside it and started swapping parts.. and the problem only goes with the MPU.. But what I find weird.. Is the working machine takes about 7 seconds to book completely.. and you are spinning reels.. But the machine that has the issue.. takes a good solid minute to boot.. The only difference in boards is the malfunctioning machine has the enhanced sound board.. Well any ideas or input would be great.. I assume people will point there finger at the green battery.. and i understand.. and I will order one.. But I constantly see this talked about in the forum as not being very important... as well it does rest at 2.7 volts.. so its not completely dead.. If I test it in the machine after being off for 3 hours.. I still get 3.1 volts.. Only when I remove it for 10 minutes does the voltage slowly leak down to 2.7 range.. Thanks Guys.. Also, a multimedia board increases boot time, that is normal Title: Re: Another "Displays Netplex Link is down" Post by: Red7 on October 18, 2012, 11:01:30 PM Alright, I will swap out battery tomorrow.. Been looking on Google to try and find one.. I notice there is a ton of Ni-Mh 3.6V battery out there.. I really am not concerned if it is the same physical size.. Has anyone tried a larger mAhr battery? I see a lot of cordless phone battery's are ni-mh and run 3.6 V... Maybe I will give one a try and see if it works..
Thanks Guys Title: Re: Another "Displays Netplex Link is down" Post by: BR549 Auto Sales on October 18, 2012, 11:31:28 PM Batteries Plus carries them, they are @ 8.00 each
Title: Re: Another "Displays Netplex Link is down" Post by: cowboygames on October 18, 2012, 11:54:07 PM And if you left your machine on for 10 minutes and it started working try leaving it on for a day or two. Maybe the battery just needs to be charged
Title: Re: Another "Displays Netplex Link is down" Post by: Red7 on October 22, 2012, 11:50:06 AM Hey Guys thanks for the input.. I left the machine on for 2 Days straight and then powered it down for a day.. and no luck.. So I guess the battery has had enough.. I looked on the Batteries Plus web site.. but could not locate them. Would you happen to have a model number that they go buy. I used all the numbers on the battery, but cant seem to cross reference to anything they offer. I just realized yesterday that another machine is acting up, upon boot up the screen will flash , although it does boot up.. Almost seems like a power supply issue. I checked the battery and sure enough there was corrosion. So I guess I need 2 of them now..
Thanks Again Steve Title: Re: Another "Displays Netplex Link is down" Post by: BR549 Auto Sales on October 22, 2012, 12:18:21 PM The part # at Batteries Plus is:
Item # COM10473 Long description is 3.6 V NIMH FED3/100DKO-PC 8.99 each Hope that helps Title: Re: Another "Displays Netplex Link is down" Post by: TTG on November 25, 2012, 06:52:37 PM A battery rated at a higher maHr should not harm any machine as it just means it will last longer once fully charged. Im sure you already know this though.
What should be noted is that most nimh charging circuits measure the very sudden and very fast spike/dip in voltage, the battery goes through when fully charged. Meaning that any rechargeable nimh battery with the same rated voltage, placed in "most" circuits WILL charge fully, as most circuits dont monitor ma to determine when a battery is done charging. They measure the sudden spike/dip. So going with a rechargeable nimh that has a higher maHr rating, "should" actually be a good thing. I dont know enough about the motherboard yet to say with certainty though. Just an uneducated guess, based on a few past projects. I should note the the voltage most likely needs to remain the same. In all circumstances. |
