Title: Open a 1992 Bally Fire and Ice Machine
Post by: kpjones44 on October 20, 2012, 08:31:23 PM
Hi,
My wife bought a 1992 Bally Fire and Ice that was locked and did not have a key.
I picked the service lock and could not open the door.  I completely drilled the lock
out and the door still won't open.  I have tried lifting up on the bottom and smacking the side
door, but nothing seems to help.

  Any advice would be appreciated

Hi! And  :238-

What you are calling the service lock, is actually not a lock at all, but rather a Jackpot Reset switch. It is operated with a key (like on a hand pay at a casino, the tech comes over, hand pays you cash for your jackpot, and then turns the key to clear it off the machine). This will not open the door, as it is not connected in any way. Glad you picked it and didn't drill it, as you would need to replace it later if so.

On the door lock you drilled, turning the key would engage a door latch, lifting it up/down. Try sticking a screwdriver through the hole and fish around in an attempt to hook the door latch mechanism and lift up on it. It's been awhile since we've had a Bally 5000 machine, so I cannot help in locating the exact position of the latch you need to find and lift.

You may try doing a search (top of page) on "Bally 5000 door lock". This may provide you an idea of what you're fishing for.

Good luck! You'll get it!

Thanks for the quick reply.  I thought that was a reset switch.  I will work on the latch tomorrow morning and let you know.

Thanks again.
