I will start off with a little back story -I have a BB1 NXT that while ram clearing the monitor went black with a short flashing amber light. I tried reseating everything and powered back on but no video. I sespected the monitor or cable but known good monitor/ cable did the same thing. Tried new RAM and Bios ROM and tried to re ram clear. I changed the CPU and it worked fine after that.

I know it is an issue contained to the CPU so on to my question, what in the NXT board fails to cause no video output, Is there a replacable component or is it a  fancy PCB style paperweight?

Most likely the Adastra board (the processor) where the Ram card is on, you can use one of the ones off eBay but you will only be able to run older games. Confirm part number for exact replacement

Only older games due to processing speed? How old is older (certain series) I have a fried main board I suppose I could try the adastra board from him to see what happens.  As it stands I have 2 not doing me any good, might as well play around.

I'm supposing the processor just fails from age/heat or is it normally induced by something else.

Yes, Speeds, the mhz. are different on the ones usually found for sale as they are from another type board, and usually the OS needs to stay 64mb or 1268mb if not it gets jerky on the display of the reels spinning

I would dive into trying to make one from the two cpu's you have, just be cautious with removing the processor as connections are very fine pitched

And always make sure heat sinks are there and fans are in working order and clean, usually bad boards have dirty no working fans but I have had like new ones go bad, also dirty boards in general cause issues
