Title: Any idea what this is and is it adding any benefit to this machine?
Post by: MikeCamp on November 12, 2012, 02:04:41 PM
Bought some 3 - S2000s this weekend.  They don't work well, Coin_in Jam on one, no VRF display on the other and no buttons on the other, terrible buzzing sound on the third but anyway, more issues for me to deal with.  I've got this one machine with this stuff in it, figure its probably player tracking.  Can someone in the know tell me what this is and if it can be removed without any further harm to the machine.  (this officially gives me way to many projects :(    )

Thanks for looking,
Mike

Its player tracking hardware... it can be removed without any issues. All of my bartop VP machines had the same Acres gaming boards in them and they aren't needed for play.

I kept them though to use the legs off the chips in case I ever break an eprom leg and I use the wire to make long jumper wires if I want to temporarily bypass door optics. Plus I use those boards to practice soldering when I haven't done it in a while. Better to ruin a useless board than your MPU  :200-

Perfect, there are black and red wires that come out of there and one goes to the switch on the door, the other appears to go to my bill validator but they do connect to that funky little board, can I just unplug those?  Not sure how to get to the back of that button is between the printer and the cash box.

I want to get as much of the extra junk out of these cabinets as possible to try and make the troubleshooting a little easier.

Would be nice if there was a diagram somewhere that indicated what all the little panels and such did and where things should be plugged in :)

I would think you should just be able to unplug anything that ends up connecting to that Acres board. I haven't had to clean one out of an S2000 but I'd assume it would be similiar.
