Post by: drfreeze1739 on November 18, 2012, 10:22:53 PM
Hello all.

Need a little help on this one,,,,

It powers on and it shows 50 in the lcd.  but the coin mec on the door wont energize and it shows tilt.

I go to the rest switch on the hopper and reset it it and it will energixe for a split sec then deenergize and then back into tilt mode.

i have ran the self test and the hopper works in the test. the coil test works.. ran the switch test and perss the coin in switch and it will change the lcd numbers.

when i run the reel test the lcd just shows 1.1.1

I cant get it to work other than doing the test...

Any help????

Will post pics in a min..

Have you reseated all the wiring harnesses to all the boards?
Reseated all the IC's on all the boards?
Fuses and fuse holders are all good?
Voltages to all the test points on all the boards are good?
Battery is good?
I have found that directly below the battery, the IC and socket in the U30 position sometimes gets severely corroded from the battery.

I have unpluged and repluged in every connector on the door and on all the boards.

i have checked all the fuse's

I put 2 AA batterys in place of the one that was on the board temp for now.

I have pulled all reseated just about all the main chips.. But not all yet.

I havent checked the voltage yet.. Doing that tonight...

I'll chime in here....

I have a similar slot with the Progressive system.

When I first started working on mine, it would tilt
all the time. What I found out is.... I think these slots
won't do anything right until the progressive system
has values set into them.  If your battery was dead
or disconnected, you lost the programming for the
Progressive.

I can tell, because your slot shows blank and zero
on the upper mechanical displays.  They have to display
something other that what you have.

Someone passed this on to me and it helped me get going;

http://home.mchsi.com/~litterbox99/temp/Bally%20E2000%20Progressive%20Programing.rtf (http://home.mchsi.com/~litterbox99/temp/Bally%20E2000%20Progressive%20Programing.rtf)

It's a bit tricky, but eventually you'll get it.

Once I did this, I was able to proceed further in my diagnosis.

Hope this helps !

Todd

Also take a look at those 18 total  (3 columns 6 per column) of redish brown ceramic capacitors on the I/O board on the upper right corner labelede C1- etc. Look to see if any of those are deteriorating and the ceramic is splitting or cracking. If so that can cause problems. Swap with a known working I/O board.

Litterbox, Thank You! My next project is a progressive and most likely this info will be very helpful!

Thanks!

When i first open door and turn it on it shows 80.03.0.0.1

Then when i shut the door you can here it all try to activate the door and stuff then it deactivtes and shows tilt and 50.000 in the cld and nothing works now since the door is closed.. and the progesive went blank.with nothing showing..

but if i open the door and do a reset the progesave comes back and shows numbers...

then when i lock the dooe it shows 50.80.00 and still in tillt and nothing still works..

What are your voltages at the test points on the power supply, the MPU, and the I/O ?

Power supply's voltages are, 5V, 7.5V, and 10V

TP = Test Point

PowerSupply board test point info-
TP 1 (+5 ) to TP 3 (GND) should be apprx 5 volts DC
TP 2 (ZC) to TP 3 = 7.5 volts DC
TP 4 (+UR) to TP 3 = 10 volts DC

I/O BOARD -  in the upper left corner
TP (neg) - to TP (pos) + = 5 volts DC

MPU-
I do not see test points on the spare E2000 board I have or shown in the manual either.

update...

Been messing with the power supply connector and the power connector on the MPU and now i get

no numbers in the top progeseve and i got it to energize the door and everything and the tilt light is out....

it says insert coin..... but when i put a coin in it will tilt right away and have to press restart button on hopper and then it goes right back to working mode except no numbers up top and put a coin in and it will tilt again..

Your best bet is to take all the boards out and get a stainless steel bristle brush the size of a tootbrush from the hardware and shine up all the pins which the harnesses connect to. I would bet the tin coating on all the pins have a dull oxidized coating creating all your problems.

I would pull the power supply and check the solder joints on the pins for the plug. I have found and repaired many cracked and broken connections. I have found the same problem on the MPU plugs before, but not as severe as the one on the power supply's.

I used this document to do it..

Credit for the "Programming Doc"  goes to:  MarkInAz

He an I have similar Progressive slots and now you do as well ;-)

He responded to an older thread and gave me this document.

This type of slot was my first and since then I have done two
other Progressive units + 8 or so E1000/2000's

There's little documentation on this Progressive System
but if you come across one, I'd replace the battery, set your
'progressive' values (based on the aforementioned document)
and save your changes.

Once this is done you can continue to diagnose.  If you
don't, it will just tilt and you'll chase your tail...

just a personal observation....

Glad you got it going !!!
